storm damage!

Well, we had a fun night. Or I should say I had a fun night as DH was out of town.  We had a thunderstorm come through that did some major wind damage in our area!

I have uploaded some pictures to a shutterfly account: clicky

There is a branch/limb on the house, too, that looks like it did some damage (plaster is falling down in the bedroom a little).

The winds went from south to north, and the news said it was 75 mph two suburbs over.  I have other pictures from around the block? it?s crazy!  No one was hurt (at least on my block). Not a single house was damaged (at least not bad)?  just garages & backyards!   Some trees look like they were snapped in half and then tossed 10 ft.

It was a great way to meet the neighbors, and now we will have less leaves to rake in the fall.

Re: storm damage!

  • Wow! The sirens went off by us in BBrook/Naperville, but no damage by us.  Glad that you didn't have major damage!

  • Wow, glad you are alright, especially since your DH was not around.  I love regular thunderstorms, but that would have freaked me out!

We are in Downers... and the sirens didn't go off.   I was sitting in the living room and saw a milk carton fly by... and then realized the loud boom was a tree on my car & house :)

  • Wow!  I'm glad no one got hurt!

  • My parents live in Des Plaines and they said the whole town looks like a diasaster zone. The trees in their backyard fell on the power lines, so they have no idea when they will get electricity back. I'm in the city and we didn't have any damage - just some high winds. I had no idea how bad it was until my mom called me this afternoon.

  • Glad you are okay and that you got to meet some neighbors!  We lucked out, just lots of leaves and twigs down. I'm especially grateful because I know quite a few people still without power.

    Everyone welcome.
  • The papers today confirmed DG had a tornado- with 90-100 mph winds! That sounds crazy, and it sounds like your neighborhood was extremely lucky to not have major damage.

  • The tribune said 55th & main for the tornado, and we live abut 2 blocks southeast of that!!  But I think we got the straight line winds, not the actual tornado.  Everything just looks like twigs were snapped and tossed 10 ft to the north (twigs meaning limbs & branches & entire trees!)
