Re: Randoms - put 'em here
Anyone lose power last night?
How did everyone's kids fair with the storms last night?
My H and his family are pursuing a wrongful death suit against the landlord of the house that my BIL died in.
Anyone have experience with this?
Obviously money won't bring him back. If they do get any money it will go into a trust for his daughter until she turns 18.
The morning my BIL passed, my MIL and SIL asked if I would drive them to the house. By the time we got there, it was about 9 hours after the fire and there were no tv crews or reporters or gaukers left. But the owner of the house was sort of 'standing guard.'
I was able to talk to him and ask him questions, and he admitted to me that he knew BIL was living/sleeping in an area that was not a designated/legal bedroom and that none of the smoke alarms in the house had batteries.
I can't guarentee anything obviously, but I have every reason to believe he'd still be alive if the smoke alarms were in working order.
I feel very weird about the situation, but I really don't have a say. And honestly, if niece can get some money out of it, I guess it's better than nothing at all.
I think that this is the way to go. Find out who the landlords insurance company and sue through them.
Awwww, awesome.
D&M, how sad. Again, I'm so sorry for you family.
Folks (homeowners and renters), check your smoke detectors, please.
The storm left us with no damage. We have a branch of our plumb tree that snapped, but it's all of 1 cm around, so I'll snip it and toss it in compost today. We were lucky. I know people to the west got it pretty bad. The kids were fine with it. The worst came before bed.
OMG that is so horrible.
Our lawyer is actually drawing up a letter that he is sending to the landlord, who in theory will send to his insurance company, who will hopefully just write a check for niece and drop it. That's basically how the lawyer said the process will go.
Please! Do it!
our power blinked, just had to reset alarm clocks.
good luck with the suit, I don't have experience with that either but I wish you peace.
D&MJ - I am so sorry that your family has to go through this. Hopefully the process is smooth.
Henry didn't nap yesterday so he was in bed by 6pm. He missed watching the storm on our front porch with us. We had a couple little branches down but nothing major.
Nick was trying to grill fish when the worst of the storm hit. He stuck it out for a while, but finally brought the fish in to finish in the oven. He said he was mostly afraid the grill was going to blow over and then we would have nothing for dinner.
The sky coloring was a really pretty turquoise before it started raining. I enjoyed watching it come in and feeling the breeze.
Deeder that is so sad about your friends little girl. How awful! D&M I hope things go smoothly with your BIL's case.
So this morning we had another semi-scary ob appointment. My ob couldn't find the hb on the doppler even after trying for 10 minutes. She scooted me down the hall for a u/s and there was our little booger jumping all around the place. Must have been that chai I had this morning. I'm so relieved and glad to have my nerves calmed again, at least for a little while.
Ahhh! That would have scared me too. Yay for a squirmy baby!
Personal and probably stupid question, so don't feel obligated to answer....but I see that you've been discharged from your RE. Are you considered high risk? If you are, does that mean you have "extra" appointments? Just curious...
Crusty bread with butter.
Red beans and rice sound delicious! I think maybe we will have that tonight too. Oh wait. That would mean I have to get out of my pjs and go to meijer. Maybe not.
Ack! That must have been so nerve wracking! Glad they were able to give you and U/S right away and everything looked good.
Oh no, you girls can ask me anything you want...I wouldn't have been considered high risk just for seeing an RE, but because of my uterine anomaly and history of growth restricted baby, I am going to be seeing a Maternal Fetal Medicine doc. I'm at the lower end of high risk and don't HAVE to see one, but my MFM is right across the skywalk from my office, so it will be so easy to run over there for appointments and ultrasounds.
