So I work at a place where we see people's names all the time. Three gems from this week:
Abc - pronounced ah.bee.cee
Brain - pronounced Bianca
Thelastone - pronounced the.last.un (the woman's last child)
I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried!
Re: Fun with names
This needs to be a weekly feature on our board.

That's the one I can't quite figure out! how does brain = bianca?
Yeah...I never said my clients were educated, did I? But I have NO idea on that one.

I also don't enjoy boys names on girls , there is a poster on TB that her names make me ROLL my eyes right out of my head

Like what? There are a ton of names that used to primarily be boys names that people associate with girls these days. I guess I haven't been looking into baby names recently and don't know what the cool kids are doing these days.

1) Your ticker makes me do this
every time I see it.
2) Are any of these people not ghetto-fab? That's the real question.
1) AWWW Thanks
2) I work 3 miles outside the city, where most of the clients come from.

My thoughts exactly.
Sorry, didn't necessarily mean for you to be that specific, just an example or two; feel free to DD! I don't particularly care for those names, regardless of boy or girl, but I see what you mean. If there was just one of the three, interspersed with more traditional names it might be different. I actually do like girls names with more gender neutral nicknames. And I don't like super-girly names, either, but to each their own! I know not all people like the names I'd pick.

I literally sat here for a minute trying to figure out how that one worked. It just doesn't.
Amber - I have a friend who used to work in public records for the state. One of her coworkers had a customer sign in with the name La-a. They called her up by saying "Lah-ah". She came up and said "it's La-DASH-ah, the Dash don't be silent".

Because they thought they had a boy and filed the paperwork before someone set them straight and didn't go through the time/expense to have it changed?

this is an urban legend gone bad if it is in real life now
Bwa ha ha ha ha!!!! The Dash don't be silent! Dude, that is ah-mazing!
me too. i don't like names that are "super gendered" in general though (but its harder to avoid with boys I think). Patrick & Jackson are my favs. Our names, especially since Claire was vetoed, are pretty gender neutral
and I'm sure my mom will hate them.
My sister had a patient in the hospital whose name was Sh!thead.
She was Indian (from India) and it was pronounced sha-theed. Not that I blame her parents, it is more of an issue of ethnic name gone wrong in English.
