My Happy House
I agree.
Really? Some random ass idiot died due to his own stupid actions and you feel that you need to be respectful of that?
Do you know anyone that has died from a drunken driver? i have no respect for grown ass adults who put themselves and others in danger... dead or alive.
I didn't say I was all "ohhhhh poooor guy". I am saying I am respectful enough of something so serious and upsetting as dying as to not treat it so flippantly as you are.
And its none of your business if I know someone who died from drunk driving.
Get pissy all you want, I don't think the situation merits people basically saying "good, eff him".
It's very sad & unfortunate that two men, who had family and friends, are dead because of a very poor decision to drink & drive. I am sure that a lot of the emotions coming from his friends (like Bam at Ebert) include anger at Ryan and maybe themselves for not stopping them.
I agree with McVay. I am respectful that 2 people died.
I think drinking and driving is dumb...I was hit by a drunk driver, had my car flip and had to be cut out. The person who hit me didn't have a scratch on them & their car wasn't too badly damaged. I personally will never, ever drive after consuming any alcohol and I will not get in a vehicle with someone who has been drinking. I think it's unfortunate that 2 people died because of poor decisions but it doesn't make it any less sad to me that their families/friends are grieving their loss.
i guess the difference for me is that it doesn't make me sad. like i don't think it is insensitive for me to just not care about a family i don't know.
Is the situation sad... yes when someone dies it is sad. But people die everyday, and in much worse scenarios then this guy.
Because he had some sliver of F-list fame people care and are all oh don't say this or that.
Why do you need to be respectful of someone you don't remotely know who put their own life in danger and killed themselves and a friend and could of hurt and even killed others. Thats what is so strange to me...
ummmm... yeah probably his whole family & friends. I am in NO way defending his actions because they were stupid, but that comment is such an a$$hole thing to say to say about someone.
Yes his actions were stupid, yes he was doing stupid sh!t when he died & yes it's awful that he killed his passenger. I do not respect his actions, but i respect his death because his family & friends have lost a loved one. should they just pick up & move on with their lives like nothing happened?

Are you serious... you thought when i was refering to "people" i was speaking of his family...
the term people meant the randoms in the world that have no direct correlation to him!
of course his family cares... but why the hell do random girls in detroit michigan have a second thought about it. its not like im walking up to his mom and saying "good thing your son died" because THAT would be disrespectful.
saying on the internet i don't care about it is not disrespectful...
Of course his family should care why in the world you would think that i was referring to people who actually knew him and cared for him is beyond me. I thought it was pretty obvious when i said "why do people care" it was obvious what "people" i was talking about... guess not.
Im ok being an ass because i don't care about him or have any respect for him... sorry, agree to disagree i guess....
This all just furthers my point... doesn't make sense to me.
He had fans, even if what he did was stupid. People love what the whole group does & apparently he was a big part of it. I can understand why people who don't know him are sad about what happened & defending him.
People who talk about MJ like he was a saint now that he's dead doesn't make sense to me, but that's just how people feel I guess.
Well said! Our society idolizes famous people, and there is a need to know what is going on in their lives. Elvis died of a drug overdose, yet people still mourned and cried over his death.
The guy obviously shouldn't be driving, and maybe the only positive that comes out of this is that younger people who looked up to him, will think twice about drinking and driving. It sucks that 2 families will be forever changed because of poor decisions.
mara-he was in the jackass movies.
I think I agree with all. I think you should respect people when they die regardless of how they died, but I do have a feeling of "he did it to himself." He killed someone. His family and friends have to live with that the rest of their lives. I am sure they are sitting there regretfull that they didn't do something to stop him (take his keys, call him a cab, etc).
I thought Roger Eberts comment was a bit harsh, but he had a good point.
I am not so hung up on the drunk driving as much as I am the driving 130 mph. WHO THE HELL drives that fast. That is not alcohol related, that was him being dumb trying to show off how fast his car can go. When you live your life on the edge like that, eventually it will catch up to you.
And I am sorry, but his passenger was just as dumb. He got in the car knowing that he had been drinking AND didn't tell him to slow the fvck down. Thank God he didn't not hurt anyone else.
i'm already kicking myself for replying to this....but........
He was a dumb*ss, and did a dumb*ss thing and everyone knows it (including his friends and family). He still died though and it sucks.
I honestly don't understand the outrage over it from either side. If the news came on this morning and said that Joe Smith from Southfield was driving 135 miles with a .19 alcohol level, drove his car into a tree and killed himself and a passenger i think people would have a different reaction.
I'm sure he was a nice guy and great friend but what makes him any different then Joe Smith?
This is exactly what I thought.
This exactly.
I agree with this.
I agree with Jess. It bothers me that people care so much just because he was a 'celebrity.' It also bothers me that he got famous for being an idiot, but that is a whole other issue.Driving 130 mph is dumb even when you're not drunk. Chances are that could have killed him and his passenger even without the compounded risk of being drunk. That was an accident waiting to happen.
I think people who drink and drive are selfish, and don't consider the effects their actions could have on their family and friends. He was an idiot, but I'm sure his loved ones would much rather be spending their time remembering the good things about him. Instead because of the way he died they just keep getting the circumstances of his death thrown in their faces. I know that if any of us knew him or his family IRL, we wouldn't be saying to them "Oh well, too bad he was an idiot." But we're not talking to them IRL, and the whole situation is infuriating.
Don't drink and drive kids, it doesn't end well.
I'm sad two lives were lost, I'm sad about how they were lost. Drinking & driving are stupid - end of story. He was two times the legal limit and doing 140 down a highway. He could have killed others. His friends shouldn't have let him have the car keys.
I think this is a horribly tragic event and could have been avoided had he had the brains to realize he was too drunk to drive and had his friends realized he shouldn't have the keys.
When I start to feel buzzed I either ask if Jason is going to be our DD or I stop drinking and don't drive until I know I'm sober. It's just way too risky & stupid to drive buzzed/drunk.
This.
What he did was unbelievably reckless, irresponsible and stupid. Thank God no one else was hurt by his horrible decisions. Maybe he doesn't deserve any respect or consideration, but I think as humans we should have the decency to have respect for his family and friends who are dealing with a lot of grief, regret and a terrible loss. And I'd say that about just about anyone celebrity or not.
I agree. I also find it interesting to hear reactions to drinking & driving vs. tragedies from drinking. My doc's son was drunk at a hockey game. I guess he was misbehaving & security was looking for him, so he hid outside under a bus. The bus took off, and dragged him to his death. He was a bright young man with a promising future & made a very foolish decision that cost him his life. A similar situation with that bar manager who hit the overpass after hanging out of the emergency exit on top of a party bus this past weekend. They didn't get behind the wheel, but they were drunk & chose to do something that ended up taking their lives. No one else was hurt but their actions had a huge impact on a lot of people.
I agree with you and Jess too. The fact that two people died is sad, and obviously my heart goes out to their friends and family simply because I feel that way whenever someone dies whether I know them personally or not. However, it's hard for me to have a lot of sympathy for the two dead people themselves, since their actions pretty much got them killed. Senseless.
I had saw a couple friends post something on FB about him dying and I had to Google who he was.
Not a Jackass fan at all so I wouldn't know anything about him or his co-stars. I was kind of disturb what results I got when I did Google him... the toy car thing.

I actually am a fan of Jackass, have seen all the movies and used to watch the show all the time.
It's sad whenever someone dies, just because he made a dumb choice doesn't mean he deserved to die. Hopefully this will set an example for his fans not to drink and drive.
