Needed- Bridal Shower Locations!

Hi everyone-

I'm looking for a bridal shower location in Houston. More so in central Houston or Clear Lake/Friendswood/League City area, but open to ALL suggestions in any part of Houston.

It has to be able to fit 50 people. We're thinking of just serving heavy appetizers, so we don't want a place with an insanely high food/beverage minimum.

Places we've looked, but ruled out are: The Tasting Room and Chocolate Bar- loved the idea of CB, but they don't have any private room so we'd just be out in the general seating area while it's still open to the public.

I thought a cupcake or dessert place would be fun, but it doesn't seem like any have private rooms :(

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!! :):)

Re: Needed- Bridal Shower Locations!

  • I actually did a wedding shower at The Chocolate Bar, and it turned out great!  Because we did it in the afternoon, not many people were at TCB.  I even did it at the W. Alabama location, which is smaller.  I would highly suggest the Rice Village location, so that you can fit that many people.  I think, if you did it during an off time, you could pull off a really fun shower there that the guests would enjoy as something different :)

Sorry, but I was already planning on suggesting TCB before I read that you'd considered it.  I just think it's a really fun idea!

That said, what type of place to you envision the bride enjoying?  After all, it is about her.

  • Check Sugar Babies on Shepherd and West Alabama
  • Sugarbabies on Shepherd, Mad Potter, Pinot's palette, Buca de beppo(not sure what their min. amount is though)

I think Sugar Babies has a really low count, like 15-20, for their private room.

  • I love the Junior League for showers.

If you like less "traditional/ladies who lunch" I've had good experiences at some funkier places.  I hosted a private party in Belvedere's private room after DH threw my birthday party there and both events were really great.  For the event I did, I pre-ordered a certain dollar amount of bottle service and they gave us free apps for the 3 hours we were there.  For my birthday, DH ordered bottle service but my guests ended up ordering so many martinis and other drinks that they gave us our bottles for free at the end of the night (cheap evening for DH!).

My last birthday was at CHA Champagne.  I didn't plan it but the friend who did didn't seem to have any problems.  If you dp an afternoon rather than evening you can get the whole place to yourself.  You can bring in food or order theirs.

There's also Soma or Sonoma wine on Richmond or Alabama and they do private parties too.

OP - if you like the Chocolate Bar idea, you could rent a screen (piping/draping) inexpensively from Aztec party supplies.  You could also just rent piping and buy your own fabric for the draping to customize your look.  Probably easier to just rent the draping since it's already measured/cut to size.  Then you could attach beading or other decor to jazz it up, or bring a custom fabric overlay or something.

  • Sugar Babies is definitely toooo small.

    In the CL/FW area, try:

    Cullen's

Texas Tea Room & Cafe (they don't have a private room, but are only open for lunch, so you have the whole place for private events)

    Butler's Courtyard

    Bay Oaks Country Club

    Perry's or Perry's Italian

This is what I was going to suggest. I have not been but have heard great things about them.

  • I have been to a shower at Ousie's. They have a private room that is really lovely.

If you go there and go to the bathroom, there's a huge bluebonnet pic on the wall.  That's my work!

The lady who started it (read the back of the menu when you go) used to work at my kids' elementary school.  She is so sweet, and used to always run the school carnival.  Her son was killed in a car accident (he was in his 20's) where someone else was at fault.  After that, she quit her job at the school and opened the tea room with the help of some of her friends.

It's a great place, and the food is really good : )  Especially the banana pudding.
