Moms: talk to me about Gripe Water

Did you think it worked? How expensive is it? How do you give it to LO? How often? Was it for colic or gas problems? Anything else?

Reid is having awful gas problems. He is on gas drops now. but I was wondering if gripe water would be better. My diet has not changed yet his gas problem has gotten 5x worse then it has ever been. He is teethings, so could that be it?

Re: Moms: talk to me about Gripe Water

  • we gave it to Eli for gas. I think it helped a little. It isn't very expensive. I just got it at target by the other gas stuff. you give it to them in a dropper. The stuff we had was apple flavor and he liked it. It would be worth a try since it isn't too expensive. Just make sure that you have your own dropper because the stuff we got didn't come with one.

  • We never used it. We used the gas drops, which barely worked. What ended up helping her gas issues was to change bottles and formula (I know that isn't much help to you, sorry). She never really got over the gas stuff until she was older and on more solids.

  • We used it once and Julia threw-up vomited not even 5 minutes after giving it to her.  I never gave it to her again, but I have given her Little Tummy's Gas drops which seem to help her.

  • We used it for colic and it did seem to help some and we used gas drops some. Both to me work sometimes, but then other times nothing would work. We just had to get through it. Samuel would scream until it passed. I would usually walk around with him or bounce him. Then he would be fine. His gas got better after the three month mark. We usually dont have any problems with it anymore.

  • Thanks for all of the responses.

Krissy- I thought about the bottle thing.. but he is just as gassy on the breast. Not sure what that is about.

If you want to try it - I highly recommend Doc Brown bottles. They worked wonders for her!

  • My sister's oldest daughter pretty much lived on gripe water for the first few months of her life because she had a very sensitive tummy. It would work right away for her... But it never once worked for Wyatt, so I think it depends on the baby as well as the nature of the pain
