interview question

I had a phone interview today and after was told I would be called to schedule a second interview some time this week.  My question is I already have a prior commitment for a weekend in August and if I am hired I would hate to ask for time off so soon, but there is really no way for me to rearrange my plans.  Is this something I should mention ahead of time (in the second interview) and if so, how should I bring it up?  If not, do you think it would look unprofessional to be asking for time off so early in the position-assuming I get hired Wink

Re: interview question

  • I wouldn't mention it in your 2nd interview unless you're specifically asked if you have any upcoming PTO needs.  I'd tell them about it when you're offered the job and ask what the protocol is for existing plans for new employees.  You may need to take the time as unpaid but they should be understanding about it.

    I agree with the PP.

    Perfect!  Thanks for the suggestion
  • I was in a similar situation for my current job (I needed 3 days off my 3rd week in).  I told them after I was hired and they were going over my benefits and vacation days.

I had the same situation, I did not tell them I had a summer vacation planned until they offered me the job.

  • I agree with the pp''s.

I had a similar situation at my current job, except it was 2 weeks off (for my wedding and honeymoon) after being there for about a month. I think it really depends, and in your situation in which it is only a weekend, it would be best to talk about it if/when they offer you the job. That way it won't affect your interview, but you're bringing it up right away.
