help!! ewww

Let me start of by saying we aren't dirty people.  I am constantly going home and sweeping, steaming floors, wiping off counters.. we have a loveable lab.. who sheds like crazy which is the main cause for this.

Last night when I got home.. I saw a cockroach  in our garage.. OMG I am terrified of all bugs.. but especially these type..  My garage opens into my basement.. so I immediately went inside and sprayed RAID on the entrance, around the floors.  Basically everywhere.. I went a little crazy.

This morning when I was getting ready to head out.. I saw a dead cockroach by the entrance to the garage.. EEWWWW.. For one, I guess I am glad I sprayed the RAID.. maybe I should have also sprayed it in the garage.

What should I do.. I dont want anymore!!!!

 HELP!!

  • LOL I could have written this when we moved to GA.  I was mortified the first time I saw one in our house.

Apparently, down here in the "south", cockroaches are abundant everywhere no matter how clean you keep your house.  I would highly suggest investing in an exterminator that comes quarterly.

  • really?  is that normal to have come quarterly?

  • I wouldn't call over one roach (and one dead one) in your garage. Is that where you keep your trash?
  • If they are in the garage I would have to wonder where they are coming from.  Do you keep your garbage cans there?  They are going to a source of food.  I don't know what the tell you but I am skeeved out thinking about it.  Poor you!

You can have them come as needed, but I just assume have them come quarterly and be done with it.  Plus, that way - you're covered btwn visits in case they come back or you have other issues.

  • Yes, thats where our trash cans are. I don't really have anywhere to move them too.. Grr.

Our guy comes every other month.

  • Do you live in a townhouse? If so, they can be coming from your neighbor's house. When we lived in an apartment, no matter how spotless we kept the kitchen, we still got lots of roaches. Turns out the people next to us were messy students with food out everywhere, and we were getting the roaches coming over from there. When those students moved out, the problem got much better.

  • Presumably it was the same roach... you saw it, sprayed, it died.  You have one *** roach. If you aren't seeing more, don't panic.  It's not time to call an exterminator.  I would spray around the doors of the garage (to the outside) as well as an cracks in the garage where you see light.  Do this at the change of the spring to summer and fall to winter.  Bugs like certain temps and will go looking for them when the temps outside change.

    Breathe.

  • We saw an occasional roach or two when we first moved into our new place.  I chalked it up to living in an old building.  We put out traps (the kind with "bait") and that helped a lot.  We hardly ever see them now.
  • Thank for everyones help.  My plan is to make sure I spray in the garage, and maybe the exterior.  I will also look into some exterminators.

  • some non-toxic and preventitive options too:

we had some very dirty neighbors in my first nyc apartment so we had to prevent and have exterminators come. i do not miss that part of nyc life.

  • Oh goodness!  Make sure you never move to Florida if one roach freaks you out!  PPs gave good advice.  They go to where sources of food are so make sure you spray around the trash cans and the threshold to your basement and garage.  You should be fine!
