We got some more info today from her doctors and my mom will be calling them tomorrow directly (my grandmother signed a release now so she can be told her medical info) to get the low down without my Grandmother's filter- she tends to hide things as most older people do. She was told not to go to the ear doctor after the results of her carotid artery u/s yesterday. The carotid artery on the right side of her neck is almost completely blocked and is probably causing her headaches and dizziness. She also has Lyme disease and a muscle disease related to the Lyme disease (not sure of the name of it yet). She has a consult with a surgeon on Monday and an appt with her regular doctor to f/u on the Lyme disease and muscle disease on Tuesday. I'll be going up to MA to help out after her surgery until my mom can get here. I definitely inherited my stubborn side from her. She won't let me go to her consult appt even though I have monday off and could do it. Grrrr! I hate that she's alone. We will be going up there 4th of July weekend or sooner depending on when the surgery is.
Backstory: She had her first "episode" on June 4th when we were visiting her. The episode started with a ringing in her ears that left her weak on her right side and she almost fell. Alexi caught her and she insisted she was fine, but we knew she was off for the rest of our visit. She later called my mother (who is in NC) to tell her what happened. If she had admitted things to us we would've taken her to the doctor right then, but she feels like she'll burden us by getting her grandkids involved (my brother from FL was there, too). Since then she's gotten more and more episodes and she's felt consistently weaker. She told her doctor she felt like her muscles were just withering away and was scared to go to bed at night as she had a hard time getting up in the mornings. This lady is 91 and walks at least 3 miles a day and stopped b/c she could barely get out of her chair. I'm so terrified that this is the beginning of the end for her. We've grown even closer over the last few years as I'm her closest family and she absolutely adores her only Great Grandchild and I know that's part of the spark left in her eye. I just hope she can come back from this surgery and be around for her next great grandchild when the time comes.
Re: T&P Needed for my Grammie
((hugs))
It's so hard to watch loved ones go through things like this. I'll keep your Grammie (and all of you!) in my thoughts and prayers.
Heather, I'm so sorry. I hope they can figure things out and her health improves.
I'm glad you are around to help her - let me know if you need anything (she can't be far from us, MA is not that big).

Oh Heather, I'm so sorry to hear this. I know what you mean about old people being stubborn and not wanting to be a "burden" to the family. My grandma and grandpa are the same way, and it's so frustrating.
I hope your Grammie can get some answers and the surgery does the trick for her! Lots of T&P headed your way.
Thanks ladies. MA ladies- she lives in Norton not far from Great Woods (I think it's the Tweeter center now???).
I've now got the number of her neighbors who will be checking up on her and her doctor just in case I need them.
Keeping your Grammie in my thoughts and prayers. It is so hard to watch them deteriorate. Hugs Heather!
Oh Heather, lots of T&P prayers for your grammie, you and your family. I hope her surgery goes well and that she is in fact able to be around your daughter more and their sibling (when the time comes). ::HUGS::
