Have you ever won something??

Have you ever won something? A contest on the radio? A drawing? The lottery??

I won a contest on the radio a long, long time ago. I think I got a CD and some restaurant gift certificate, but don't remember where. It was on B105 though lol

Re: Have you ever won something??

  • Lucky Magazine has monthly giveaways and I've won a few of those...nothing big, mostly shampoo, or hair accessories. Recently I started entering in the giveaways on Goodreads and so far I've won 4 books!

"People talk about escapism as if it's a bad thing... Once you've escaped, once you come back, the world is not the same as when you left it. You come back to it with skills, weapons, knowledge you didn't have before. Then you are better equipped to deal with your current reality."

  • I haven't.

But DH won a live-aboard dive cruise in 2009 via a contest on the dive operator's website.

I keep telling myself I need to sign up for more contests, because obviously people actually do win them, but rarely do. Mostly because I don't want more spam!
  • Never!  I always try though...without any luck.
  • When I was in high school, I won a set of tv's greatest hits cds in a radio contest because I knew tv theme songs (well, my mom helped me with one!) I won free zoo tickets in a radio contest when I lived in Ft. Wayne; I don't remember what I had to do to get them, but I remember the dj asking me if I was old enough to be calling in (yes, I sound like a kid on the phone!) I won a pair of tix to see Tool years ago by being caller number whatever. A few years ago, in another radio contest, I won some crappy dvd that I never picked up. I won by knowing the only moveable US national monument. (anyone??? lol)

I won a few speech and writing contests in high school. I won my age group in a 5k that my job sponsored. (Needless to say, there were very few participants!!!) I won the spelling bee in 5th and 7th grade, and second or third place in the science fair in 6th grade.

On our cruise, I won a free bottle of liquor in a raffle. (Well, either I did or H did, since I was holding both our tickets!) The awesome thing about that is that they actually let us have it in our stateroom!

Oh, and we got a couple of buy one, get one lottery ticket coupons a couple of months ago. We bought some, then bought more with our winnings from those, etc. We ended up turning $7 into $20 and then stopped. :)

Oh yeah, I won a poker game against H and 8 or so of his poker-playing friends. THAT felt good! H won two poker tournaments on our cruise - one of which I played in, too. I didn't do so hot so I didn't enter any more!

  • I enter a lot of stuff so I tend to win a good amount of stuff! I have won one book off Goodreads. I have won different decor things from blogs. I also won a makeover from Q102 Spa Days contest they had last fall, I've also won movie tickets from Q102. Oh and a few years ago I won a whitewater rafting trip from Kiss but I ended up not going bc I couldn't find a second person to go with me!

ETA:I also won my AG in my first 5k, it was a smaller race (about 150 people), but it sure did feel good to win!

Is there a trick for winning on Q102?  I always call but can NEVER get through.  It drives me insane!

  • I won a few minor money on scratch offs but that is about it.

  • I haven't posted on here for a while!

I won a handbag from pick your purse on Q102. It was valued at $800. That's all I can really think of right now. I wish I won a lot more :)

  • In high school, I won a mini TV at afterprom.  It's in our basement with our fitness equipment now.

In 2003, I won "Best Seats in the House" for 4th of July at Kings Island.  I scored 6 tickets to Kings Island and a living room set (couch, love seat, recliner) from Furniture Fair.  I entered on the giveaways link on cincinnati.com and was stunned when I learned I had won it.  The living room set is awesome and it's the set we still use to this day.  This was definitely the best thing I've ever won.

When dh and I were engaged, we won a quesadilla maker from Dillards when they did a bridal fair thing.

Hey, I've got an afterprom prize too... a framed poster of an Ansel Adams photo (half dome). The poster got a bit water damaged at one point, but I've hung onto it for sentimental reasons...plus, the frame is a good so I keep saying I'll use it for something else one day.

Other than that, I can't say I've won much...$10 on a scratch-off lottery ticket a few times. Oh, and I won a couple of awards at my company's annual meeting, but those don't come with a cash prize or anything fun... (-=

  • I won the Reading District Bridal Bash last year.  It was one of the most amazing experiences in my life.

I do want to share some bittersweet experiences to show the entire picture.  I have to pay taxes, of course, not complaining just stating a fact.  And a lot of the prizes required purchase.  For example, ice sculpture was free, but the tray that it came with was $100.  Also, some of the gifts were overlapping in the type of vendor.  For example, I had prizes from three caterers, but I could only use one of them.

That said, I am still so grateful for the generosity shown to me by so many vendors!
