Etiquette question.

We have a wedding in July. We are djing the thing but would have been invited if we wouldn't have dj'd. We are charging them half of what we charge for weddings and have to travel 1 1/2 hrs away and find lodging in a rinky dink little town or climb in a tent. Do we still need to get a gift?

Re: Etiquette question.

  • I think by giving them a great discount price on DJ-ing that is a gift enough (as well as footing your own bill for the hotel to stay in). If you feel inclined and your budget allows a gift (under $75?), maybe that and a card.

I'd give a nice card and, if they are close friends, also a small gift, like Leo suggested.  Half off is a great deal for them already!

  • It's my SIL's SIL. It's a gift grab situation. They invited a ton of people that really don't mean anything to them. We see them twice a year at that. I think we are going to do the card thing.

I'd definitely just do a card in that situation!

After your update, I totally agree with this!

  • I agree, just a card.  If you're really feeling generous maybe a GC to a restaurant or something.  I think half-off on the DJ is a pretty good gift in itself.

  • Given your follow-up description I'd do a card and write hope you enjoyed the music! Toodles.
