Dear co-irker,

Please, just shush! Do not talk! Every time you open your mouth you go OVER the line of what is appropriate talk at work.

The latest example: I mentioned to her that I finally signed up for WW and I am dying to lose 20 lbs. She comes back with after you lose that are you going to have a breast reduction cause you are huge! I mean you are (inserted a name of another coworker) huge!

THAT is completely inappropriate at work. I was so caught off guard by her comments I didn't know how to respond. I actually went to discuss the conversation with HR (one of my supervisors). I explained to him that I wasn't necessarily offended by the talk, but I am frustrated by the fact that she is in a VERY seen position and repeatedly is unprofessional and inappropriate for the position.

Re: Dear co-irker,

  • Well that's...awkward. Frankly, I don't really like to have my breasts discussed one way or the other, especially in public at work. Good for you for talking to your supervisor about it.

This isn't the first time she has said something awkward to me. I have a very thick skin and don't get offended easily. My main issue is she just doesn't see what should and shouldn't be discussed. What makes it worse is we are in cubes, so anyone could hear it.

I do know my supervisor is trying to let her go from the company, but he can't do it himself as he is not her boss.

  • SO not appropriate!

Another co-irker TMI story: there's an assistant who sits outside my office who is so freaking loud that I can still hear her when my door is closed.  The woman has no filter and bad mouths her boss, b!tches and moans all the time, etc.  The worst, though, is hearing her schedule her bikini waxes--I just don't need to know!

  • Ugh, that's so annoying!

Many months ago, I had a coworker say to me when we were both in an elevator (so at least it was just the two of us), "You can totally tell that you're breastfeeding."

I was like, "um, yeah?" :::silent pause:::

    So weird and awkward.

    Yeah, wtf?

  • It meant my boobs were really large. Which they were, it was true. But it was very weird to have her tell me that my boobs are so much bigger than they normally are.

For those of you that might remember, this is also the same coworker who I now go out of my way to be friendly to because she confronted me about whether or not I liked her. She's got no filter!

    Wow, she sounds fun.

I was just going to say, she sounds like a peach... What on earth possessed her to think you need commentary on the size of your breasts?? As if you are not aware of your own body already.

  • Can I chime in with my own co-worker vent? I have an obnoxious guy whose cube is catty corner to mine. He says he's "just not a headphones type of guy." He watches videos online, no headphones. Has conversations on his cell phone on speaker. Recently he played a video that was so loud -- and couldn't find the volume -- that I had to apologize to the person I was speaking with on the other end of the phone because we couldn't hear each other. Ugh. Oh, he chews tobacco at his desk too.

Why is chewing tobacco at work ok? Shouldn't all tobacco use be banned?

Anyway, I sympathize. I sit a few feet away from our office manager, who has really loud, lengthy personal phone conversations several times daily, and likes to yell to people across the room instead of calling them or walking over to talk to them quietly. I regularly have trouble hearing people on the phone when she's going on and on about something. Also, for someone who's worked in a newsroom for as many years as she has, she sure can't tell when someone is on deadline and can't have a 20 minute conversation about basil plants...
