L&D: Did you experience the chills, shaking, nausea or vomiting associated with hormonal surges while in active labor? Did it scare you? A bit of nausea during, but afterwards...holy hell...puking for hours and shaking/teeth chattering to the point of painful. My Mom had warned me about it afterwards (I guess she had the same experience) so I knew it wasn't abnormal, but still sucked.
First days: Did you experience PPD? Did you do anything for it? If so, what? Thankfully, No. I did however become uber sensative to Lifetime movies and emotional commercials on tv. When my Mom left after a week or so and I was on my own during the day...and the flood of early visitors died down...I did feel really isolated. What did I do for it? I forced myself to get out of the house...called friends up...said yes to every invitation offered no matter what I felt like. I don't think it was PPD, but was definitely an adjustment emotionally and physically.
1st trimester: When did you have your first ultrasound? Did they change your due date as a result of an early u/s?
I was 8 weeks exactly at my first appt and u/s. I knew from charting for the 11 cycles before, and I measured exactly 8 weeks on the u/s, so I feel really confident about the accuracy of my EDD.
2nd trimester: If you?ve chosen nursery d?cor, what did you decide on?
We're doing a music/Beatles theme. Guitars hung on the wall and ukeleles on bookcases, curtains/textiles with headphones on it, Beatles lyrical artwork, all in many different bright colors (blue, teal, yellow, orange, fushia, green) with white furniture/accents.
3rd trimester: Have you had a prenatal massage? If not, go out and treat yourself, they?re wonderful
I had one on mother's day. It was just "okay"...If I had a "go here, it's amazing!" recommendation, I might go weekly though.
Updates: 31 weeks (or 7 months!) today. We had our Roseville hospital tour on Tuesday which was cool and strange and surreal. We set up an interview with a prospective doula last night, and felt really good about our initial phone conversation with her. Getting exciting
I need to see pics of the nursery. This sounds sooooooo cool! I love it!
2nd trimester: If you?ve chosen nursery d?cor, what did you decide on? The room is an ocean theme below the chair rail and a safari theme above the chair rail.
3rd trimester: Have you had a prenatal massage? If not, go out and treat yourself, they?re wonderful
No, but it sounds like I should look into it...
L&D: Did you experience the chills, shaking, nausea or vomiting associated with hormonal surges while in active labor? Did it scare you? didn't happen to me
It IS SUPER CUTE.
S&T have done a BEAUTIFUL job.
I will share pics soonish, A (it's pretty close to complete!)
TTC: Did anyone TTC while nighttime nursing?
N/A
1st trimester: When did you have your first ultrasound? 9 weeksDid they change your due date as a result of an early u/s? No2nd trimester: If you?ve chosen nursery d?cor, what did you decide on?We are reusing DS # 1's stuff with some hand-me-downs from friends to mix it up, not doing a full on nursery this time. 3rd trimester: Have you had a prenatal massage? NoUpdates: I've been having contractions since yesterday every 3-5 minutes, went to L/D last night but not dilated enough for admission yet. My OB stripped my membranes this morning to see if the labor will get stronger or stop.1st trimester: When did you have your first ultrasound? Did they change your due date as a result of an early u/s? my first u/s was at 7 weeks and I measured right on track
2nd trimester: If you?ve chosen nursery d?cor, what did you decide on? Ellie has an owl themed nursery
First days: Did you experience PPD? Did you do anything for it? If so, what? Yes, yes I did/do. And some PP anxiety and OCD mixed in. Fun times in my head, I tell ya.
At my 2 week pp appt, I poured my heart out to my OB. She set me up with a therapist and spent the next few weeks checking in with me & John and having more appts with me. (I had 3 pp appts). Eventually she prescribed me meds and together with my therapist found me a psychiatrist. Now, my regimen to recovery includes talk therapy, regular exercise, meds, psychiatrist appts and being 100% honest with John when I start having obsessive thoughts/anxiety. When I was home with Ellie, I put something on the calendar every day, and being back at work is helping (although I regressed a bit when I first started back). Its a daily battle with my brain. I am trying to train myself to think differently about how the birth went down, because I could literally spend all day obsessing about all the things I did *wrong* that led to the epidural and c/s, then I feel like a total failure and I spiral.
I am so thankful for my amazing OB, she saved my life (both in the delivery and after) and family.
ERD 01.16.11
Surviving postpartum depression & OCD one day at a time.
Also experienced antenatal OCD.
Feel free to ask me questions about my experience.
1st trimester: When did you have your first ultrasound? Did they change your due date as a result of an early u/s?
First ultrasound was at 6 weeks, 1 day. We needed the ultrasound because we didn't know how far along I was--since my last period was also when I miscarried.
TTC: Did anyone TTC while nighttime nursing? Did you still try to chart, whether with temps or just cervical data? N/A
1st trimester: When did you have your first ultrasound? Did they change your due date as a result of an early u/s? My first was at 6 weeks because I was at the REI clinic. And yes, my due date was originally Feb. 27th, and changed to March 3rd when I had my 12 week appt.
2nd trimester: If you?ve chosen nursery d?cor, what did you decide on? We had light purple walls in that room already (nope, I didn't paint it that way- we're renting!) so we went with a purple flower set that I found at BRU. I added my own purple decor as well, naturally!
3rd trimester: Have you had a prenatal massage? If not, go out and treat yourself, they?re wonderful
I had one at the end. It was ok. I was kind of already too uncomfortable to enjoy it very much.
L&D: Did you experience the chills, shaking, nausea or vomiting associated with hormonal surges while in active labor? Did it scare you? Vomiting, yes- both in early labor and when pushing (ugh). It was awful. And I had some shaking as well, which I had completely forgotten about until now. But I think they told me it was due to the epidural.
First days: Did you experience PPD? Did you do anything for it? If so, what? I don't think I did, but those baby blues are no joke. There was a lot of crying in the first month, and The Husband was worried about PPD. But I still think it was just hormones, because it kind of phased out around week 6.
ladipale, I am so grateful to you for being willing to talk about your experiences. It's very helpful and I think it's important for all of us to be honest about our experiences and not try to put up a SuperMom front. I'm so glad that you talked to your ob that day.

Can I join in? Due Aug 24th :-)
TTC: Did anyone TTC while nighttime nursing?
Yes, T was still nursing around the clock when we started TTC
1st trimester: When did you have your first ultrasound?
Apparently I was only about 4 weeks or so.... Because I was still nursing, my cycles were still way off/irregular and we had no idea how far along I was. I would have been 8 weeks based on my LMP, so yes, they revised my due date :-)
2nd trimester: If you?ve chosen nursery d?cor, what did you decide on?
No nursery this time. It seems silly since T never slept in his. We're just transitioning him into his room now, and baby girl will probably be in our room just as long.
3rd trimester: Have you had a prenatal massage? If not, go out and treat yourself, they?re wonderful
Never had one. I'm sure they're wonderful :-)
L&D: Did you experience the chills, shaking, nausea or vomiting associated with hormonal surges while in active labor? Did it scare you?
The only nausea/vomiting I experienced was due to the epidural...
First days: Did you experience PPD? Did you do anything for it? If so, what?
No PPD for me - I'm more affected during pregnancy than after
1st trimester: When did you have your first ultrasound? Did they change your due date as a result of an early u/s?
I think it was about 7 weeks, I am very sure about conception date and the ultrasound confirmed it.
2nd trimester: If you?ve chosen nursery d?cor, what did you decide on?
We are doing a bee theme although I haven't pulled much together with the move and trying to finish up work. Poor baby #2, at this point with J his very elaborate nursery was done!
3rd trimester: Have you had a prenatal massage? If not, go out and treat yourself, they?re wonderful
Had one with DS and it was nice, might have to schedule something toward the end of this PG
L&D: Did you experience the chills, shaking, nausea or vomiting associated with hormonal surges while in active labor? Did it scare you?
Ugh, yes. I felt like I had the flu and it was hard to be "me" feeling like that.
First days: Did you experience PPD? Did you do anything for it? If so, what?
No PPD but the Baby Blues are no joke. I remember crying because my mom wanted to leave and sleep with my dad in a hotel room at 2 weeks PP!
Updates:
Feeling pretty good for 30 weeks although I feel so behind with everything, especially preparing for the baby. I haven't even scheduled the hospital tour, haven't taken the 28 week glucose test, am I supposed to be kick counting already?? Ugh. So tired in the evenings I'm crashing sometimes even before DS goes to bed - hard to get much done asleep! Having my sprinkle this weekend and I am excited to see what friends have been working on and I figure at that point I can dig in, organize, and buy what more we need. I only have 16 more work days until I'm officially a SAHM, exciting and scary.
1st trimester: When did you have your first ultrasound? Did they change your due date as a result of an early u/s?
I think I was about 10 weeks. No, they didn't change my due date.
2nd trimester: If you?ve chosen nursery d?cor, what did you decide on?
J's nursery is the Junior Varsity from PBK.
3rd trimester: Have you had a prenatal massage? If not, go out and treat yourself, they?re wonderful
I had one and it was just OK. The place didn't have the bed with the hole for your belly...I heard that's the way to go!
L&D: Did you experience the chills, shaking, nausea or vomiting associated with hormonal surges while in active labor? Did it scare you? I had a c/s so not during labor, but I did vomit while they were stitching me up and in recovery...not fun!
First days: Did you experience PPD? Did you do anything for it? If so, what? Umm...yes...still working through it. Mine is a lot of anxiety and sadness about things not going they way they "are supposed to" (hence the tears today). I've seen a psychologist once and will see her again next week. Not sure what the next step is at this point.
1st trimester: When did you have your first ultrasound? Did they change your due date as a result of an early u/s? 6 weeks due to threatened miscarriage; at first they thought i was due in feb based on my LMP, but my cycles were nearly 40 days, and they agreed that my EDD was correct.
2nd trimester: If you?ve chosen nursery d?cor, what did you decide on? we moved whilst i was 36 weeks pregnant, so we never finished the nursery before he was born. now it's just a pale blue room.
3rd trimester: Have you had a prenatal massage? If not, go out and treat yourself, they?re wonderful
yes, it was lovely!
L&D: Did you experience the chills, shaking, nausea or vomiting associated with hormonal surges while in active labor? Did it scare you? no, i never made it into active labor. DS was a c/s
First days: Did you experience PPD? Did you do anything for it? If so, what? no, just baby blues.
Updates:
2nd trimester: If you?ve chosen nursery d?cor, what did you decide on? We chose Winnie the Pooh because we were team green and I have been a fan of Pooh since junior high.
3rd trimester: Have you had a prenatal massage? I have never had a massage prenatal or normal. I guess I am missing out.
L&D: Did you experience the chills, shaking, nausea or vomiting associated with hormonal surges while in active labor? Did it scare you? I didn't experience active labor.
First days: Did you experience PPD? Did you do anything for it? If so, what? Thankfully, I didn't even experience baby blues. My mood has actually improved since she was born.
2nd trimester: If you?ve chosen nursery d?cor, what did you decide on?R has grey, red, yellow and cream bedding with different animals on it. I hung yellow and red paper lanterns and a red elephant decal in the room.
L&D: Did you experience the chills, shaking, nausea or vomiting associated with hormonal surges while in active labor? Did it scare you? I didn't have any of this.
First days: Did you experience PPD? Did you do anything for it? If so, what? No I did not, but the first 10ish days were a huge emotional adjustment for me.
MsP says it more eloquently than I could so ditto above. I am so thankful for all of you and how open and honest you on every aspect of pg and motherhood. Thank you L and thank you bumpies!
