What would your ideal Tahoe 3 day summer weekend look like?

We're going soon and don't have much of a plan. We're on a budget, bu its not super tight, other than the lodging which is already arranged. So, if you had three days at Lake Tahoe, what would you do?

Re: What would your ideal Tahoe 3 day summer weekend look like?

  • Go hiking to the "Castle" on I think it's Emerald Bay. Really beautiful. River rafting picnic on the Truckee. Raspberry mojitos at the open air restaurant right by the Truckee River rafting site. Hanging out on the beach. Horseback riding (did this when I was in high school).

Tahoe/Truckee has been a frequent summer destination for us! I went camping there as a kid with my parents and stayed with DH's grandparents in Truckee for a few days every summer. We always went for the 4th of July. Their fireworks are amazing!

  • We always like to go to Markleeville (south of Lake Tahoe) for the hot spring at the end of the day.

Last summer, we did some hiking and found some hidden beaches (around the Emerald bay). It was quite a hike (in terms of slope), but I enjoyed the hidden beaches so much that I've been asking DH to take me back there this summer. Watching the fireworks from South Lake Tahoe was also fun.

  • DH and I are the gamblers so we would spend most of our time at the tables. However, we really love the local trails so we would do some hiking or rent some bikes along the trails.

  • We have a cabin on Highway 50, and go frequently. Last year we went to this awesome beach with our friends http://www.aboutlaketahoe.com/beaches/skunk_harbor.htm. It is quite a hike, but totally worth it once you get there. If you don't want to spend all your time in Tahoe proper, there are also lots of options. If you are big into hiking, there is an awesome trail up to the top of Lover's Leap in Strawberry. Our cabin tract is right by there & it is really beautiful. The American river runs right in front of it & has lots of swimming holes when you are done. Ice House reservior is really beautiful as is Wright's Lake. We also enjoy taking our kayak to those lakes. You can also rent a kayak & do Lake Tahoe as well.

Last year, we did some river rafting out of Placerville & that was also really fun. Have a great time!

I was going to say...planted at a slot machine that was singing to me and DH would be either in the poker room or the tables. Oh, and maybe some laying out if the weather was good.

  • I like the Mrs. Dixie Steamboat dinner trip, very fun.

A day trip to Virginia City is always fun.

Playing in the lake - renting a paddle boat.

The Vikings Holm is a fun but long hike (at least for me it's long)

ETA: I love going river rafting on the Truckee River too.

  • Fallen Leaf lake is a great spot for a picnic. It is a short and easy hike.

  • Thanks, guys! Great ideas. I'm bummed that they haven't opened the Truckee for rafting yet!
