Has anyone ever been to LA or San Diego?

DH and I are going to San Diego in December for a wedding and we are making it into a vacation. I'm kind of stuck on places for us to go.

I really want to go to Magic Mountain so I know that we will be in the LA area while we are there. What else is there? Are there any wineries down there? I don't know anything about Cali and good touristy things to do. Smile

I appreciate any recommendations!

Re: Has anyone ever been to LA or San Diego?

  • I was in LA for a conference right after we got married.  I didn't get to do a whole lot of touristy things but I enjoyed driving up and down Highway 101 (I think that's the number).  Part of it is the Pacific Coast Highway and is very beautiful.  Can I also recommend buying maybe some books about San Diego and LA?  I've always gotten lots of good information that way.

I tried to go over to the LA Boards before I went and got nothing.  They were dead over there.

  • I second driving up the 101. It follows the coastline. I liked San Diego much better than LA. I didn't really spend much time in LA though. I don't know much about the location of the wineries but a quick google search turned this up.

     Good luck planning your trip!

  • I don't much in the way of wineries but you can do some of the touristy things like going to Hollywood and Rodeo Dr.  I would also suggest going to the beach, there are ton out there, since we don't have any here.

Oh and let us know of any celebrity sightings you have :)

  • I live in LA right now (Moving to DFW next month).

definitely try the PCH. Are you planning on driving up from San Diego to LA? You could stop in Newport on your way up. You could also try Palm Springs on the way - it's going to be HOT, but I think you'll be used to it Big Smile

The area I live in is called the South Bay - it's all beach towns that run along the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) and I'm about 18 miles south of Santa Monica in a town called Hermosa Beach.

I love living here - it's not the craziness of Hollywood/Downtown - or even Santa Monica. You can drive into any of those areas. Traffic is BAD here. Like it took us 2 hours to drive 35 miles into the Hollywood area on Friday night.

There are wineries around - mostly to the east if you're in LA. You could also drive up to Malibu (about 45 minutes-1.5 hours from South Bay) and they have a couple wineries up there.

You can always PM me if you have specific questions. I'm more than happy to give you recommendations of places to eat, things to see, etc!!!

  • Thank you for the recommendations. I didn't even think about driving along the coast.

EDIT: I just saw this part. So Palm Springs won't be that hot at that time of year!! Just so that doesn't scare you off - it should actually be really nice weather....
