Fourth of July in West Michigan
We've lived here for six years now, but we've never been here for the Fourth of July. We always go up north for the holiday weekend.
But this year, we're staying home. And my parents (and maybe my brother too) are coming to visit for the Fourth.
What do people do around here for the Fourth of July? Any really fun things going on? Are any of the events best to avoid due to overcrowding?
My parents are relatively easy to entertain, and they like traditional Fourth of July activities (parades, fireworks, etc.).
I checked GRNow, but I'm interested in personal recommendations.
Thanks!

I haven't gone, but have heard good things about the Hollyhock parade. I'm guessing that was listed in the guide. You could always do the fireworks downtown.
We went to Grandville fireworks one time with TH family and it was pain to leave the area. It took us an hour to get home. I would have much rather gone downtown and park on the fringe.
Here is info about the Hollyhock lane parade

The Hollyhock Lane parade is pretty short, it's crazy early in the morning, and is mostly a kids' parade (decorated bikes and whatnot), attracting parents and the neighbors in that area. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but simply sharing the info in case it might not be up Kasa's alley (much like it doesn't do much for me
)
We enjoy going to the downtown fireworks. If you don't want to get there early to stake out a spot in Ah-Nab-Awen, you can always find spots on the north side of town (north of the highway), along the river.
I did forget to add that it was a little parade. But that fact is nice for being able to go to a parade and not have to sit through two hours of politicians and Bob's Plumbers trucks, and other pointless enteries.
I always hate going to the parade that we go to during election years. So long and dragged out...
We went to Grand Haven last year, got their early but missed the parade because we were eating breakfast. We spent a few hours walking around and it started getting insanely crowded so we left.
Not sure what we are doing this year, I'm afraid the fireworks will scare my wussy boy :P
