What to wear to an interview?
This is purely hypothetical because the only interviews I've been to are months ago. But my mother (who was sitting DS for me while I went) mentioned I didn't look professional enough. I was wearing grey pinstripe slacks and a grey (though not matching suit type) jacket along with a white blouse and heels. Do you think this was not dressy enough because it was not a suit and it was not a skirt?

Re: What to wear to an interview?
Hmmm. I think matching would definitely be better for an interview. But as far as "dressy" goes, I don't think I'm getting what your mom is saying. I definitely don't think a skirt is better or worse than pants. Rather, it's whatever fits you best and makes you feel good.
Could it be that your clothes maybe need to be tailored or fit a bit better? That could add to the "dressy" look your mom is talking about.
I agree that matching would have been better. I also do not consider a skirt to be more professional than a suit.
Perhaps your mother thought you weren't 'dressy' enough for the certain position you were appying for?
It's worth the investment to get a suit IMO.
I don't think it was an issue of pants vs skirt. Everyone has different comfort levels, and some prefer one over the other.
It does sound rather--bland. A colored top would have given it more personality.
