Data usage - iPhone vs Blackberry

I'm thinking about getting an iPhone soon. I heard about Verizon ending their $30 unlimited plan, and it will soon be $30 for 2 GB/month for new contracts. Do iPhones use a particularly large amount of data compared to other smartphones? I have a Blackberry Storm and it says I've currently used 0.048 GB this billing period, and it ends in 2 days. I use mine pretty regularly for email, FB, Google Maps, occasional web browsing, etc. I guess if I had iTunes, a better camera and some more fun apps, I would use more data...but should I really worry about the 2 GB limit? I was going to wait until mid-July to buy the phone but I wonder if I should lock in my unlimited data contract now just to be safe.

Re: Data usage - iPhone vs Blackberry

  • I suspect that the 2 GB limit was put in place because most casual users of data (not streaming full-length movies or downloading lots of other large media files all the time) stay under that amount.  With an iPhone, I'm sure you'll be online more using all the cool apps, but it's a huge jump to get from .048 GB to 2 GB.

  • I'm on day 17 of a 30 day cycle and with my iphone I've used just over 1GB.  I honestly use my phone more than I use a computer to send emails.
