anniversary plans anybody?

Mike and I were talking tonight about our 1st wedding anniversary and thinking of how we want to celebrate it, and it made me wonder has anyone else starting planning anything yet, or thought about  going any where? if so whats have you thought about doing?

We'd love to go somewhere but with our lease being up 2 months afterwards, I think we'll probably save the money and put it towards a new place to live and new decor; however, I do think it'd be fun to go out to a nice dinner somewhere local and book a hotel room for the night just for the heck of it.  We could probably do that for under $150 which seems reasonable to me.

Side Note: On our honeymoon we wrote ourselves a postcard from the place we visited.  We switched off writing every other sentence about where we stayed, places we ate, what we did etc.  So I am hoping we continue to do that on every anniversary; even if we stay in town I plan on getting a Frederick MD post card and writing on it lol.  Once we start getting a few, I want to display them sort of like this...

I know that has nothing to do with your original question Stick out tongue but I'm excited about it and it kind of ties into anniversaries, so yeah... lol

  • I'm hoping that we go to Prague for our anniversary.  When we picked our HM destination that was part of the compromise, he wanted New Zealand and I wanted Prague.  Since NZ is a bigger trip I said that could be our HM as long as we went to Prague for our first anniversary.  The house is being a bit of a money pit at the moment and we have 3 weddings we are invited to in the fall so hopefully Prague still happens.

  • Really cute idea Xan.

We would have loved to go back to our HM spot, but with being in 3 weddings this yr, we just can't afford it.  Our last wedding we're in is Oct 22 in FL.  Since our anniversary is the Sunday of that wk prior (the 16th); we're contemplating going to FL for a whole week to vacation.

But, I'm having a heck of a time trying to plan/book the trip.  I don't know if I really want to go down too early before the wedding because selfish Hannah is nervous that then I'll be asked to help with last-minute wedding details than relax with DH.  So I think right now the idea is to go Thurs-Wed or something and have a few days after wedding to relax.  But I also can't decide if we should stay at the same hotel as the wedding or try a different one that could be cheaper (although we seem to have a good rate) or closer to a beach.

Anyone know logistics of West Palm Beach?

We haven't planned anything yet, and honestly that's DH's busy time at work. So we may just have a nice date night. I already bought him his gift (Planet Eclipse Etek 3 LT Paintball Gun), it should arrive on Saturday. That was expensive enough...I better get so much sweetsweet lovin' for it.

So really, we'll probably just go to dinner and see a movie, or something like that.

  • we were talking about driving out to Vegas for a few nights we went there for our HM and wished we had stayed a little longer, there is just so much to do and see its hard to fit it all in in to a few nights, so we're looking it over and maybe that's what will do!

  • I'd hoped we'd be able to get away for at least the weekend, but Alan's job is currently scheduled to end in October (though that may be extended again). So unless he's got another job lined up, and unless Jack gets to a place where he can either go to a kennel (unlikely) or be ok if someone stays at our place, we'll probably end up going out for a fancy dinner.

  • We're actually throwing our birthdays and anniversary into one weekend in December when Andrea Bocelli will be in Tampa.  We going to make a weekend out of it and stay at a hotel there.  We'll go to the concert and maybe do something like a hot air balloon ride on one of the other days.  We've never done that, and it just sounds so cool to me.  Maybe we'll also go to the FL Aquarium or a hockey game too.
    "You're the L and the V, I'm the O and the E...Am I speaking clearly?"
  • We're spending 4 days/3 nights at a bed and breakfast in a small town 3 hours south of here. With any luck, it'll be a similar trip to our honeymoon, as we can go hiking, shopping, etc. I can't wait! I've got a count down going on the calendar.
  • We never had the chance to go on an actual HM mainly due to work schedules and other trips we had to take throughout the year. OOT wedding across the country and backpacking trips.

We planned on delaying it to our 1st anniversary but now we are going to Texas for Thanksgiving week and Vegas in February for a friends wedding. So i'm thinking it will be something low key at home which is very cool with me!

  • We booked a 7 night vacay at in AI in Mexico. I cannot wait! DH hasn't been to an AI before so I'm so excited to see when he realizes he can eat and drink anything he wants without having the pay, haha. We also booked the hotel we had our reception at for the night we get back into town - they gave us a complimentary nights stay in a suite for our anniversary.

Hannah, I wouldn't feel selfish about that. Honestly I'd probably stay in a different hotel than the wedding party is for that exact weekend. FWIW I'm in a wedding later in the year and I told the bride DH and I were going on vacation and she (jokingly?) said "well make sure it's not conflicting with any of our wedding stuff" and I remember thinking that if it was oh well (since we knew it wouldn't conflict with the actual wedding). It's our first anniversary, it's really important to us.
