Anyone been to Anchorage, AK?
I'll probably be passing through Anchorage on my way back to CA and am thinking I might take a couple days to explore since I've never been to Alaska. However, I know nothing. Has anyone here been, by any chance, who might be able to give me some initial recommendations? TIA!
Re: Anyone been to Anchorage, AK?
I've flown out of there but we didn't spend time in Anchorage itself. The Anchorage Museum of Art and History sounds cool. http://www.anchoragemuseum.org/
As does the Alaska Native Heritage Center: http://www.alaskanative.net/
Have a good time!

We were there a couple of years ago. Are you planning to rent a car? If you are, you should check out the Musk Ox Farm, about an hour from Anchorage, in Palmer. We also really enjoyed the Potter Marsh Bird Sanctuary, which is just outside Anchorage, on the way to Seward and Whittier. You could also take the Alaska Railroad up to Wasilla, just to say you've been there.
And if you want to make a special occasion out of it, the Crows Nest Restaurant at the top of the Captain Cook Hotel is totally awesome, especially if the weather's good. And you absolutely have to check out the Moose's Tooth, if only to get one of their awsome t-shirts.
I think the visitors bureau website is pretty good, better than a lot that I've seen. You might get some more ideas from there.
Have a GREAT time! I loved it there and I can't wait to go back.
