Holy moly movies

Maybe it's just DH & I, but has anyone else noticed that movies are becomming more and more like soft core porn lately?  We watched "Love & Other Drugs" a few weeks ago and last night watched "Blue Valentine" and oh my gosh, there's so much sex in both of them.  There's nothing wrong with it and it makes for some great after the movie sexy time, but I feel like movies are really getting pretty graphic with the sex scenes.

I am also surprised at how many actresses are showing their boobs all over the screen.  I remember when Kate Winslet did it in Titanic (in a non-sexual scene) it was this huge deal and some video stores pulled it from their shelves, but now I could practically draw Anne Hathaway's and Michelle Williams boobs perfectly from memory.

DH and I are not prude at all, we enjoy some good porn as much as the next couple lol but we've been a little surprised at how graphic some of this mainstream movies are getting.

What are your thoughts?

  • OMG YES! I was so over seeing Anne Hathaways boobies in every scene! Ick!
    Anniversary
  • I agree.  I love me some boobies but sometimes it's just overkill and doesn't add any value to the movie.  All it does is limit the number of movies I can watch with my mom to Disney.
  • The whole time I watched "Love and Other Drugs" I kept thinking.. ok is this really necessary? I love me some boobies.. but honestly.. over kill

Good to know, Becca!  I was wanting to see Hall Pass, but I will avoid it if that's the case...

yea to be honest we didn't think it was that great of a movie, it didn't have a very intriguing plot. I mean, you can tell from the previews the guy gets a week "off of marriage" and that's really it's all about. there's nothing all that interesting about it.

Ugh.  That sucks.  I wanted it to be worth watching.  Thanks for the warning!  I'll pass on it!

Jason just added this movie to our netflix but I don't even want to see it.  I think the whole idea of the movie is stupid...if Jason ever asked me for a week 'off' I'd tell him he's welcome to have some divorce papers drawn up in that week then lol.

We saw "Bad Teacher" over the weekend which was boring and not really funny...and they showed tons of boobs in that too.  Really a movie about a teacher needs to show a bunch of boobs?  I get that she wants to win a contest in order to get plastic surgery, but it was just not needed.  There were a group of younger boys sitting in the front row (I'd say they were around 13-14) and one Mom, and that's just so awkward.  I am sure the Mom took them thinking there'd probably just be a lot of cussing or something, but nope, big ol' boobies right in front of their faces over and over again.

I sound like some grumpy old grandmom lol but it's just been a lot lately.

Yea Xan, I had some issues with the movie for that reason too. There were actually a couple times that the husbands said things about their wives that I thought were extremely sexist - even though I understood it was a comedy and that's why the lines were written. I'm not even easily offended by that type of thing.

  • Re: Hall Pass - that's very true.  I guess I didn't think of it that way.  That's so true, Xan.  Divorce papers would be sitting on the kitchen table when he got back!  But I thought the wife is the one who said he should take the week...or whatever?

Re: Bad Teacher - so disappointing.  I was so waiting for it to come out on video (we don't go to the movies).  And that would be totally awkward.  Maybe I'm an old lady when it comes to that, too, but I totally agree with you, Xan.  Can you imagine the other boys' moms who didn't go who are going to find out later that their kids saw that???
