Is this really bad?

I was wondering if you felt that it was really terrible to apply for a position after the deadline has passed? I used to not do this, but I feel now what the heck, the employer still has my resume if nothing else but for the future.

Re: Is this really bad?

  • Sure, I would.  My friend randomly sent his resume to a company that he thought was a good match and got a call out of the blue for a position they are hiring for but haven't publicly announced because someone is still in the role and will be let go.

  • I would apply.  Just because the date passed does not mean the company found a person right for the position.  Maybe you would be who they are looking for.  Good luck!

  • Go for it!  My father in law has been laid off three times in the last three years.  The most recent job has been the best one he's had in a long time, and he got it by cold calling.

  • How far passed the deadline are we talking?  Where did you find the job posting?

It can't hurt, but don't be surprised if you don't hear anything, some agencies toss resumes that are postmarked after the deadline.

  • I would apply. Why not? Don't plan on hearing too much, but you never know!

  • One of the managers in my department has three open positions right now and I heard him talking about how he had someone approach him about the position after the interviews were done and that he had hoped he had applied and was disappointed when he didn't; he's allowing him to submit his resume and interview even though it's 2 weeks after the cut off date

  • I would apply, especially if it was still posted online. It's best to get your name out there and chances are it is still posted because they didn't find someone.
