I just read on MSN and WebMD that women are being given the whooping cough booster late in their pregnancies. I don't remember getting this with Kellen, just a little over a year ago. I think there is a new reason for it, but does anyone else have any knowledge? I will be talking to the OB next week at my appt, but I am just wondering if anyone else has heard anything first.

Re: Whooping cough vaccine
Wow- well, I am glad to hear this. I wasn't sure about the seriousness, so this is helpful. It will help me advocate when I go to the doc.
Should I wait for them to do this after delivery? Or, do I go to a doc (which one?) before that time? Also, should I have DH and my daycare make sure they have recent boosters?
I'd ask your OB if they want you to get it while pregnant or not. I'm honestly not sure what the protocol is as far as safety while pregnant. If your OB says its safe they may have it in the office or you could just make a "nurse" appointment with your regular doc or public health to get it. I know all the hospitals have it on hand, though, if you wait until post delivery.
I would absolutely make sure DH and daycare are up to date. I also had all the grandparents get boosters as they were all far overdue and were planning on staying with us.
DH & I both had our Tdap vaccines last year. The CDC website says you need a booster every 10 years.

My OB hasn't said anything yet about it, maybe I'll ask at my next appointment.
