Something fun with my mom...

Hi ladies!  MH and I live in the York/Harrisburg area.  Our anniversary is coming up on July 10, but he will be in his second of a three week European trip (he's chaperoning a group of students).  Well, my mom will be here for it, and I'm looking for something special and fun to do with her that day (it's a Sunday).  We're going to a bridal shower the following weekend, so we'll be getting manis and pedis during the week so they're still fresh for the shower (I'm MOH and she looks for any excuse for manis and pedis).  She lives in GA so I'd love to do something unique to this area.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Re: Something fun with my mom...

  • Outlets In Lancaster, Chocolate World, Casino in Grantville, Mt. Hope Winery, The Turkey Hill Experience that just opened in Columbia...sorry it's short, it's hard to find stuff to do on Sundays!
  • The only thing I can think of is visiting the Hershey Gardens.  IMO, I wouldn't waste my time/money at the Turkey Hill Experience.  It costs something ridicilous to walk around and at the end, you don't even get a sample of the ice cream.

    Married 6/10/09 in Bermuda.
  • Thanks ladies!  Thos are all really good ideas.  MH and I have only lived here for a couple years, so we're still learning what there is to do.

  • The Hershey Story museum in downtown Hershey might be cool to check out too.  The Hershey Gardens like previously mentioned along with their Butterfly house.

I haven't been there, I've just been hearing ads on the radio for it.  I am now thoroughly disappointed that you don't even get an ice cream sample...I won't be going there :(

  • A few more ideas:

Sugar Plums and Tea is a tea room/restaurant off the Greenfield Road exit on Rt. 30. They're open Sunday afternoons and the food is delicious.

If you think kayaking or canoeing would be fun, check out Shanks Mare Outfitters below Wrightsville (York County side) http://www.shanksmare.com/html/activities.html You can rent them yourself or sign up for paddling tours and lessons.

There's the Watch & Clock Museum in Columbia, the Wrightsville Historical Society (Locust Street) and Civil War Diorama (Hellam Street) in the area as well.

Hope this helps and have fun with your mom!
