Still no power!! Long post!

Tuesday night: spent in shock :)

Wednesday: went to work and started calling tree people & electricians. DH called com-ed.  Went home to clean out the fridge & stuff.   Called a co-worker who offered to loan us a generator, and gladly took her up on her offere!  Luckily another friend who lives near by had their garbage pick-up on Thursday, so we were able to drop off garbage since we couldn't access our cans in our garage!  DH was out of town for work, and got home around 8. We did soem clean up, then went out to dinner.

Thursday: DH had to leave again. We had to get the mast-head replaced on the back of the house. My brother is an electrician, and he told us what to expect to pay.  We payed more than that. A lot more.  We totally got price-gouged... but had to have it repaired b/c com-ed wouldn't be able to reconnect the power lines to the house without it.  Our claims adjuster said he would sign off on it (he was without power at both his house & office, too!) After I payed the electrician double what I made a month in grad school and 1/4 more than what I made a month for the first three years post grad school... I went to the movies!  There is a movie theater near me that has a restaurant, too... so I ate gross food and vegged for two hours!!

And then today:

I have spent the majority of the morning on the phone with the power company.   And by on the phone I mean on hold!   I went out to fill up the generator this morning before 7am... and saw that Com-Ed was down the street. I got all excited!!  Com-Ed then pulled up in front of my house. I got even MORE excited!!   Then they said they were here for the house across the street, not us. Their explanation "wires are touching his garage." I said "umm, same here? and he's not even home? he's on vacation!"   We were not on their ticket. however, the lead guy on the truck did come back and look at the damage and called it in himself.

I then quickly took a shower so I could get to work to fax my approval from tree removal to the tree people (they didnt' get it or it was lost yesterday).  Then... called com-ed to check on the status.  The automated system said they didn't have record of us having lost power.  The first person I spoke with was unnecessarily nasty. When she said that nothing was called in until this morning at 7:34am... I almost lost it!   Then she said "you know, you aren't the only one without power, Ms. (murdered my last name for the fourth time during the 5 min conversation despite me repeating what it was the first 3 times and introducing myself)." I wasn't mad that we don't have power yet. i understand they need to get the power up for the majority of customers first (easier, too), and then will take care of the harder cases.  I get that. I understand that. What I didn't understand is that after 60 hours and probably a dozen phone calls, they didn't have us listed as being without power.  That we weren't on a list despite being told someone had been in our yard to assess the situation. That you had no record of it until I flagged down the com-ed truck on our street 60 hours later. I called back, spoke to a much nicer gentleman... and then sat on hold for a supervisor for an hour and a half.   The supervisor explained everything in a clear and concise manner.

Oh- and I also got an estimate for my car this morning- $2750!!!

So thankful we have good insurance!! And thankful for an understanding boss/co-workers!!   Luckily this isn't my week to teach in the gross lab :)  I think I've gotten like two hours of real work done in the past 3 days.
