Columbia association?

Hi everyone,

My husband and I will be moving to Columbia in less than 2 weeks!  Our landlord told us to look into the Columbia Association since I was asking her about pools and gyms.  I visited their website and I guess there is so much info on there that I am confused now.  So do you pay a fee and you can use all their gyms and pools?  It looks like they have a lot of running/walking trails - those are public access, right, regardless of membership?

So if anyone lives in Columbia or or part of this, I would love your feedback!!

Thanks!

Re: Columbia association?

  • It is very confusing - I don't know why they make it so difficult.

You can get several different types of memberships (you need to go to the Membership Office to join and get an ID anyway).

We pay ~54/mo for me, DH and DD - we have access to all 3 gyms and all the pools.

There was no initiation fee.  You can use a more expensive membership and you get to go to certain classes w/o paying an additional fee (like spinning, yoga, etc.) or you can pay a lower fee and jsut have access to one gym.

You can also get another membership that is just for the pools for the summer - I think that's like 300/summer.

Lifetime Fitness is also nearby - they are more expensive and its only one location, but they have really nice facilities.  Plus an onsite salon, spa, etc.

  • If you live in a property that is part of the Columbia association you already pay a fee that allows you to use the pool/gym for a cheaper rate.  Our house isn't on CA property so I joined lifetime fitness.  They have a HUGE outdoor pool (with a big slide), indoor pools, and the gym is amazing.  They also have amazing programs for kids.  If you can get in at a no joining fee time (and live nearby) I would highly suggest it.

I actually followed my trainer to a new gym so we decided to join the CA for the pools this summer.  We just bought a 2 person summer membership (I think it was around $300?).  We can use any of the 23 pools.  We actually have 3 within 1 mile of our house.  They are no where near as big or as nice as lifetime, but the convenience is really nice.

The trails in Columbia are great.  I would suggest getting a map though.  They stop at streets and then sometimes start again half a block away so the first few times it is difficult to navigate.  I run/walk the dogs on the trail at least 5 times a week.

  • We lived in the Columbia area for a year but we were not members of the CA. Our apartment complex had a pool and gym. Columbia does have nice trails and some nice parks. Centennial Park is really nice. There's a trail around a huge lake (I think it's like 2.5-3 miles around). Anyone can use the trails.
