I colored my own hair

..that was interesting.

I went to Sally's & bought the color & developer, then went home and made chris sit in the bathroom with me so he could be my moral support.

I was terrified I was going to ruin my hair.

As i'm squeezing the color out of the tube, chris is like, that doesn't look brown to me.. it's white.. i knew I grabbed brown but I freaked out a little after I already had it on my head. phew. brown.

It cost me $15 compared to the $86 i paid last time. Now I just need a trim.

  • Uh...this post is pointless without a picture.

On a related note, I color my own hair, and the other day I told H I was going to go color my hair and off to the bathroom I went. 10 seconds later, Lily showed up with a blue crayon in her hand. Ready to color my hair.

Aw. so cute. I didn't do anything new to my hair. It's the same brown color that it was. I'm just impressed I didn't screw it up. I think it could have stayed on a little longer, but oh well.

  • You've been blond before though, right? Or did I just make that up? I actually only just noticed that your pic was brunette.

yup. I was blonde when I got married (feb 09), but colored my hair almost black in July 09. It's been variations of brown ever since.

  • I always think about doing this, cause I dye it my natural color just to cover up the...eeeeek.....gray!  I get it done every other time by my hair dresser, but I have my H do it the other times since it is a super simple job.  I might be brave and try ti myself next time. I have an awesome hair lady on SH Drive if you need somebody.

I went to Karisma across from Wal-mart the last time I got it done. I liked the girl a lot, she did a great job, but it was $86.. which is not bad, I guess. But, I hate spending the money and it I can just touch it up for $15 i'm down for that.

  • Congrats on your first DIY!

I've been dyeing mine myself for almost 8 years now.  I'm a natural brunette but thanks to an overzealous stylist applying super-blonde highlights awhile ago, I've been blonde since high school.  It is a bit freaky the first few times you do it, but it's so much simpler and MUCH cheaper than going to a stylist every 4-6 weeks.

I've gone through a ton of different brands (usually because the one I've been using for an extended amount of time has been discontinued) and I will say that I'm totally in love with the new foam dyes they have now.  I've only tried the John Freida one (they have it at Ulta for like $13 but you can always find the $3.50 off $10 coupons so it's cheaper) and I looooove it.  DH usually despises haircolor day since all the other ones I've used smell so strongly, but after I did the foam one, he actually asked me if I'd put on perfume!  It smells so much better and is a lot easier to apply (I actually almost enjoy doing it now, the foam is fun to play with).
