Re: 4th of July
Some may disagree with me, but as a native Bristolian I think there is only ONE place to be on the 4th of July and that is Bristol. Oldest/longest running 4th of July parade in the country. The full celebration actually started over a week ago. There are concerts every night leading up to the 4th, drum and bugle corps competition on the 3rd, a carnival and all sorts of other fun stuff.

As for fireworks, there are a ton. Bristol actually does their's on the 3rd. The Pawtucket Red Sox have them on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (and people fill the streets all around the stadium to watch, so you don't have to go to a game too!). And it appears there is a show in Providence on the 4th with the RI philharmonic orchestra! I found this site too!

Welcome to RI!!
I agree about the Bristol Parade, although I confess that I've never been to watch the parade, only march in it. It will take patience if you do go - there are a tons of people on a smallish island not meant to hold that many people.
When I was little, we always went to the fireworks at Old Mountain Field in Wakefield. It's a very long, great show!
The Bristol parade and drum corps comp are on my must do list! I have a former color guard student of mine who is in one of the corps that will be there! Thanks for all the great info too! I am going to have to check out Bristol's fireworks on the 3rd as well!
