Business Suits for Women
in 9 to 5
I will have interviews coming up in a few months and I don't own a business suit. I know there are probably other people in my position so I'm asking for all sorts of different shapes/sizes and where the best place to get one is.
Regular-
Plus Size-
Petite-
Tall-
Also, how much will a good business suit run for nowadays? Do you have to wear a white button up or can you do like a silk shirt? Or, does it depend on the place?

I'm confused why you need all those categories. Which one do you fit into? I'm a petite, and I found good ones at Ann Taylor Loft and Banana Republic. Even JC Penney carries some decent suits for not much $. I got my last suit from ATL for about $140.
You can wear whatever you want underneath. Shell, cami, button-up, whatever.

I bought mine at Dillard's. I got a great Calvin Klein Suit on Clearance for about $130.
I got a store name one for $70
For the largest range of sizes and economical choices, I always go to Macy's. They often have suits on sale for $69.99 with brands like Anne Klein and Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren, etc. Search the sale racks and you can get an amazing bargain or something high end, depending on what you're looking for.
And no, you don't have to wear a white button up. I tend to wear a solid color camisole or light knit sweater under my suits. I hate button up shirts and I feel like I look better in other things. It's all about what you're comfortable in.
I am small. If I wore flats, I would get petite. If I wear heels I get a regular length for pants. I got my suit at The Limited years ago before our went out of business. But I would be able to find something at all of the stores mentioned by PPs.
I know it has already been said, but I love Ann Taylor LOFT. I got a nice basic black suit on sale there a couple of years ago for right around $100. (skirt and jacket) I'm fairly tall (5'9) and was a size 12/14 when I bought it and feel it is really flattering. I like Banana Republic's long lengths for dress/suit pants. Again, I have a 33in inseam and their long length slacks allow me to wear 3in heels no problem.
As for what to wear under your suit, I have some button ups, some silk shells and some light sweaters. This way depending on the season (heat) or the formality I can change it up. Also, I like to wear lots of color under my suit. You can spend more on a basic black suit that will last you a long time and change up what you wear under it whenever you like. Lets me show personality and change up my wardrobe every now and then.
I am petite. I shop at Banana Republic for the majority of my suits. I've also found really nice suits at Brooks Brothers (I go to the outlet and the prices are much better than at the regular store.) I usually have to have the Brooks Brothers suits tailored, but it's worth it because they are the nicest suits I own (the material hangs really nicely, and they just look good.)
I almost always buy sale items so I don't really spend more than $200 on suits, and often times less than that.
I almost never wear a white, collared, button-up shirt with my suits. I might wear a colored button-up, but most often I'll just wear a nice blouse.
I agree with this. I can't say that there are specific go-to suit stores for women, based on size. I'd shop all the major department stores, as well as Talbots, Pendleton, and Brooks Brothers.

You can also try high end consigment shops for some classic peices.
