Restaurant rave: Ethiopian food

On Friday night, DH and I went to Abyssinia on Wickenden Street in Providence. It's a relatively new restaurant serving Ethiopian food. It's similar to Indian food in flavors, but you eat it on this sponge-like bread with your hands. The food was really good! We shared the Meat combination platter for two, which came with 2 meat dishes (we chose the Key Wot and Doro Wot), and small portions of all their veggie dishes. We couldn't finish it all... more like a combination for 3. It's also BYOB, and I don't think they charge a corkage fee, but we didn't bring anything so I'm not sure.

  • Oooh, something different! I've heard of Ethopian but never had it.  Thanks for the recommendation!

I had Ethiopian food in DC. Nice to hear that there's a place around here to try! I loved the honey wine, and I'm not a wine drinker.

  • Thanks so much for posting this; I looooove Ethiopian (vegetarian) food & it sucked that I'd have to go all the way to Boston (Red Sea) to get it. And you're right; the palette is very similar to Indian.  The 1st time I took DH to Red Sea he was like "This is Indian street food!".  FYI if you like injeera (the flat bread) you can get teff flour @ Job Lot; Bob's Red Mill makes it.
