new mulch issues - wwyd??

We just had our front lawn professionally landscaped the middle of May.  Yesterday I noticed mushrooms popping up in the mulch, weeds in the new sod and slime mold in the mulch by the house.  The slime mold started about 2 weeks ago, I didnt know what it was until I googled it.  It basicailly looks like my dog puked in the mulch (yellow "slime") and then it turned to a white powder top.  Yes sick I know.

DH and I spent almost 3k to have all the work done which includes the new mulch... would you complain to the company?

No. Not unless they somehow failed to fulfill the terms of the contract. Fungi and molds are common and occur naturally.

  • No, because this happens to ALL mulch, whether it's in bulk from a garden center or in bags from Home Depot.  Welcome to gardening.

  • It's what mulch does.
  • YES!!!  Good mulch should be growing Mushrooms and that type of fungus esp the kind with the powder on top, it could be dangerous..... Good mulch should come with preventive measure to prevent growth of certain fungi.   Some times it just a bad batch

Well if its store bought, they put chemicals on it like antifungi things.

Not to mention there are certain ways to store mulch and if its not open and vented with at least partial coverage, fungus can grow in the mulch before you even bring it home.
