a great friend of mine named cole told me to think positive. so i bought a special bracelet off etsy this week. it's really just a string and a bead but i bought it to remind me to remain hopeful.
in the mean time...
this week i bought an old used dutailier glider for $25 that's in great shape. it's white, which is what i want all the furniture to be. omg it's so comfy! i found a retailer on etsy who sews slip covers for the cushions for $35. i plan to order them down the road because the cushions have seen better days and it's also a checked blue - not all that cute.
MIL gave us an old bookshelf with some character that i plan to paint white. i also need to refinish an antique dresser from a second hand shop i bought a long time ago. it's already white but they didn't do a great job of painting it so it really needs to be sanded down and redone. i may have to outsource this one and have them add a frame around the top so we can use it as a changing table (moms - what do you think? is the frame necessary?). i also need to get the drawers fixed as they are sticky. i'd love to just send it off to someone and presto it's back and gleaming... we'll see!
i also picked up the paint tonight. it's behr machiatto. i know it's really dark, but i love it! this will be covering a light blue that's in the guest room now.

If we have a girl i'll add soft pink and white accents. if we have a boy i want to do an americana theme.
i also need to repaint the trim and finally paint our wood closet doors. several years ago we replaced all our closet doors but i never painted them!
didn't buy the ceiling paint. i need to check if we have some first. seems like such a waste to buy a whole gallon (they didn't have anything smaller) for just a few spots. GRRR!!
Re: pushing forward with the nursery...
cool! maybe i will forego that then.
dumb question - the changing pads - do you have to wash the cover constantly or do you get several or what?
not pg. trying to be hopeful about getting pg. am not pg now.
Okay, I'm with you. Once you started saying if we had a girl I freaked and went back and looked for an old post that I may have missed.
We're hopeful for you too!!
1. I like that color. I wish we could have gone that dark with our bedrooms - they are all the same color, similar to what you posted - like the same family - only lighter.
2. No need for a frame on the dresser to hold the changing pad in. Like Madame said, they usually have a strap you can attach to the back of the dresser to prevent it from slipping off. And they also usually come with a strap to keep baby secure - tho we never used it for either kid because I never left either of them alone up on the dresser/changing pad (unless they were teeny tiny and totally immobile (is that the right word?) and I just ran across the room for something or whatever). So yeah, you'll be fine without it. And that way the dresser can grow with her/him without you having to take the frame off.
3. I only had one changing pad cover for Gabby. I usually just laid a cloth diaper down across the top tho to help in case there were any accidents during diaper changes and if the cover was in the wash, I laid down a towel across it, or used it bare since it's water proof anyway. No biggie. I have a second one this time around because the elastic was shot in the first one - which I still have and use as the backup. But honestly I don't think you really NEED more than one. And to add to this: my SIL gave me these little waterproof pads that she used with her kids. I had one on the changing pad, over the cover and it came in VERY handy when Genna decided to keep pooping after I removed her diaper. Totally saved me from having a mess on the pad and having to wash it. Weee! So look into those maybe. They are also good for the crib or bassinet. It's just a little waterproof pad, soft on the top and small enough to cover the entire area baby lays in and helps prevent you having to change the sheets in the middle of the night in cases of accidents.
And 4. I was wondering how things were going with you and my fingers and toes are all crossed for you guys.
Ya know, now that you mention that - that's pretty much what they are, only not disposable. SIL gave them to us used (yeah sounds gross but they were all clean and no stains, and hell it's family lol) and I happened to lay one down one day and was like ok so I guess that's what this is for..?? well that was the same day we had the above mentioned accident and I was all like WOW dude they totally didn't leak thru! awesommmme! lol
I have 4 covers, plus little pads that go just under his butt, and that way there's always enough. I end up changing out the little pads often and not the entire cover all the time.
These are the little pads I use, probably the same thing that NOLA is describing also. I got bigger ones for the crib and bassinet.

I think that sounds great. Ava's room is in a similar color and I got vinyl work for her room and then added picture frames.
I agree no need for the additional stuff for the changing table.
I have 3 covers. All were on sale and I wash them every week or if something does get on them, then I change it out before then.
