Maria*

I need your help! DH recently started a new job and will have some training in CT in August.  Training is Monday-Tuesday, and since we had to cancel our vacation plans because of the new job, we figured that Kyle and I will tag along and we'll make a weekend out of it.

The training in is Enfield and we would like to spend Sat/Sun somewhere not too out of the way, but also "vacationy" (I know, not a real word!).  Do you have any suggestions of anything in CT?  Are there any beaches?  I've looked online a little, but wanted advice from someone who knows the state.

Also.... he'll be in training all day Monday and Tuesday so maybe we could have a mini GTG.  I'm not sure how close I'll be to you, or even the other girls that live out that way.

Re: Maria*

  • ::Butting in:: b/c I also live in CT!

There are beaches in CT. However, most of them are probably an hour and a half from Enfield....(Enfield is right on the MASS boarder)

I've never been to the area of Northampton Mass, but I have heard it has a decent little town area with some good restaurants and stuff, but have never been there. Also the Yankee Candle Factory store is right there - which is great.

If you are up for it, what I"d reccomend is getting a hotel in the Mystic area (shoreline) for the weekend and heading to Enfield on Sunday so he is there for his training. Mystic has a lot - beaches are close, and there is a huge aquarauim. There are also vineyards in the area (I know you have Kyle but he could nap in the stroller while you and DH enjoyed some wine ;) It'll probably be an hour and half ride up to Enfield - maybe a bit further.....Not sure if that is too much driving.

If you do spend the weekend in Enfield - I reccomend driving a half hour to West Hartford one night. West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square have tons of great places to eat and shop....

Sorry this isn't more helpful, hopefully Maria has some more input!

P.S. This is just training in CT right?!?!? you guys aren't moving are you?

  • Six flags New England isn't that far from Enfield either if you are into amusement parks.

    Good one :)

  • Thanks for the suggestions Jodi!  I totally forgot you lived in CT too.  An hour and a half is sort of what we had in mind.  We had thought about going to Boston, but that was further than we really wanted to do.  I'll look in to Mystic and see what I can find.

We do love amusement parks, but Kyle is still to little for it to be any fun and I don't think we'd have much fun if we had to take turns going on rides.

And yes, just training!  We are Upstate New Yorkers for life!

  • Posting from my phone so I apologize if this is disjointed...the other CT girls got it pretty covered. Friday we are going to the Eric Carle museum which is about an hour from Enfield and near Yankee Candle so ill let you know how it is. I'm about a half hour from Enfield so we def should GTG. Mystic is a great suggestion for a getaway. I've stayed at the marriott and its really nice. Near me is uconn and they have barns with animals you can visit - so might be a fun afternoon with the kidlets. Also teachers get into the science museum for free. Otherwise we spend time going for walks various places and going to the lake. Oh the world headquarters of LEGO are in Enfield so if your DH goes back when Kyle is older that would be awesome! Depending on the day Krissy could probably meet us (answering for her)...Alycia you'll be busy would be my guess lol you know having a baby or something

Lynette said in August so it would depend on how I was doing etc but I may be able to make it to something low key with the baby. That is if I ever have this baby...

  • I have been to the Eric Carle which is kinda cool if you catch an author there or an event but other than that may not be exciting for the non-children's book enthusiasts. I enjoyed it. There is a farm stand/store with awesome sandwiches and cider donuts that are super yummy. That was the best part of the trip. Atkins farm it is called, they have a website as well. http://www.atkinsfarms.com/

  • Mystic is my favorite place in CT. The Holiday Inn there was recently remodeled and we've stayed there a few times. Really convenient for walking to the old village shops and the aquarium. I go down for day trips all the time since it's halfway between my bestie and I. I'll be there on Thursday (I think) so I'll have to keep my eyes open for kid friendly spots. It's not far for me if a Nestie GTG is planned either.

Yes and Reenie too! There are lots of us close!

What is that ice cream place near the bridge in Mystic..I like it.

There's also the aquarium which little kids love to watch the fish or go in the bird house.

  • Thanks for the info girls!  And I loooove the idea of getting together!!! We will be making the Saturday-Sunday part our family vacation, but Monday and Tuesday Jason will be in training all day so Kyle and I would love a GTG one of those days, which would be August 23rd or 24th.

I could come on Monday, not a Tuesday. I have Mondays off. Enfield is about 2 hours from me. We could try to find something centrally to all the girls (Maria, Alycia, Reenie, me and you Lynette...as well as anyone who wants to come for the day!). I am super excited and would love to meet you and Kyle.
