I might have a problem

I just bought four bottles of Maalox at Walgreens. One for my purse, one for the kitchen, one for next to my bed and one for work. I ran out of all bottles in said locations this weekend.

*sigh* I hate acid reflux.

Re: I might have a problem

  • talk to your OB. you shouldn't be going through that much Maalox. C is on Nexium now (she takes it every other day usually).
  • what about a hazelwood necklace/bracelet/anklet from www.hazelaid.com

I bought one for the next time I'm pregnant

I am on zantac 150 mgs twice a day. I believe I've gone through about 4 bottles since end of Feb...so not TOO bad. I just like to have them all over so I don't have to hunt them down. My PCP thinks my cough could be related to the reflux too (not 100% b/c of the cold, but I'm skeptical as it didn't start til I had the cold, even though the reflux has been here since day one)...so he told me to try to take a dose of Maalox every few hours thru the day so I could stay ahead of the reflux. Also, he said I really can't take "too much". And he said no to prilosec, said it was not well studied in pregnancy and that zantac was safer. I used to take prilosec every other day before pregnancy and was 100% fine.

ETA: I believe prilosec is the same as nexium. but I could be wrong.

For real? I don't know...I might be skeptical on this one.

Then again, one necklace is like the same cost as three bottles of Maalox. Maybe I'll give it a shot.

I know it sounds funny and obviously I can't attest to it yet but L has done so well with her baltic amber necklace, 1 dose of ibuprofen in 2 weeks with her 4 molars coming in, 1 has fully come through and 2 are halfway through the other is still bulging

I have heard about the amber and teething working for some babies...I just wonder if it can really absorb the acid from my skin to the extent that I would not have so much reflux. Who knows.

  • I don't know that it absorbs it or changes the acidity of your body

  • Eek, I hope you find something that helps you better.  I had it some with my pregnancy with M, but I was ok if I just took Pepcid.  Tums didn't work after 2nd tri at all.

  • Nexium is similar to Prilosec but not available OTC.  Its cat B but isn't heavily studied in pregnancy.  The MFM basically said there's no reported incidence of issues though and he's comfortable with it (he actually prescribed it for daily but C take its a couple to a few times a week as needed...she mainly tried to avoid being woken up by the reflux).

Lucky for me I have an appt on Friday. I'm going to ask about this. Thanks for the info :-)

PS, my doctor told me NO to pepcid. Why do they all have such different opinions????
