My kitty is hurt :(

So I told you she freaked out and jumped out of H's arms last night.  She hit the floor pretty hard, but just ran right off.  I got up this morning, and she came and greeted me in the bathroom, like she always does, was rubbing against me and the wall, and was perfectly fine.  I went back to her room (yeah, I know, she has her own room... It's actually a storage room, but don't tell her that) and started to get her food out, and she came running to me, like she always does, and was perfectly fine.

H gets out of bed, she sees him, hisses, and takes off running below the couch.  We leave her alone and a half hour or so later, she comes out, but she's not putting any weight at all on her back left leg, and is hissing and growling as she walks.  We have absolutely NO clue what happened.  She'll let us pet her for a minute or two, but if we even look like we're going near that leg, she starts hissing and gets mad.  She's been under our bed all day and hasn't come out once.

We called the vet, but they don't have an appointment until tomorrow morning, and there's no way in hell I'm putting her in there overnight just for her to be stressed and upset.  So we're just kinda steering clear of her and seeing what she does until tomorrow, but I'm worried as hell.  I'm hoping nothing is fractured and that maybe it's just a sprain, but I know nothing about cats, so I have nothing to base that on.

Vibes for Bernie are appreciated.

  • Definite vibes for Bernie.  I can't believe your vet couldn't get you in.  To me that is considered an emergency.

She's still very young, so I'm sure she'll heal nice and quick!

  • I've been in tears for most of the morning because we just can't do anything for her.  We did just move her into her room and shut the door so she could be near her food/water/litter box, and so she's contained whenever we do need to take her tomorrow.  It just makes me so upset to hear her in pain.

  • Poor Bernie. I hope she is ok. Sucks that your vet can't get you in today. I agree that since she is so young she should heal quickly.

FWIW, we had a similar issue with Rocky - just noticed that he was suddenly limping. It turned out that he just has "wiggly kneecaps" and that he can knock them out of place if he jumps off high things (like his cat tower) and they go back into place themselves. Hopefully it's something simple like that.

I agree with PP that cats are able to bounce back from things more quickly. Our beagle pushed our 4 year old cat off a 3rd floor balcony at our old apartment. DH rushed her to the vet and nothing was broken, she just had some broken capillaries in her nose which is minor and nothing was needed. Hope she gets better soon. Keep us updated!

This is similar to what was happening to Naismith.  He had to have surgery when Parker was a month old.  He kept falling down the stairs.  Our dog has cost us more than the kid has so far!
