4th of July plans?

I know it's only Monday, but I need to focus on something fun today. I completely forgot this weekend is a holiday!

Since DH's family should really be named "the Procrastinators", we don't have plans as of yet. What is everyone else doing?

Re: 4th of July plans?

  • Not totally sure. H's brother is having a bbq. We may stop by for a little weather pending.

H wants to have another couple over this weekend. I was like..."like...to entertain?" and he was like, "yeah, to have dinner or something." My immediate response was Oh Hell No. But I feel bad saying that now. He's going a bit stir crazy...as am I. I am just kind of annoyed w/ our house being a revolving door. So I think I will tell him if he wants to have another couple over and just grill burgers or dogs and buy a bag of cole slaw/potato salad, fine...but if it's anymore than that...no no no.

Besides that, I am sure we will have more family over. and maybe some friends.

  • I have no plans, D is working so I'll probably go to my parents house in the afternoon just to visit or for dinner.

I'm off Monday and Tuesday so it's a nice long weekend for me.

  • Well, we have the annual raft-up!

I'm off Friday, Saturday and Monday.  I'll probably go out to the boats on Friday.  Saturday I plan to do a long run, then we have a wedding that night in LA.

Sunday I'm working some part of the day, I think the afternoon.

Monday I'm off, so I'll be back on the boats.

Of course, the most important part of this weekend is what I am baking:

    2 loaves of banana bread

1 loaf of peanut butter banana bread

    brownies

    smores cookies

    rootbeer float cookies

    and Crunchberry krispie treats.

  • I'm going to a concert with my sister Saturday, so we'll be in Dallas for most of the day. I see shopping and movies in our future, then eating at House of Blues and catching the show. Sunday and Monday will be pretty quiet for now - just indoor grilling with my mom, JJ and sister. My dad will be home for R&R very soon, so we're not doing much until he's back.

My sister and I had considered getting fireworks, but with the burn ban in place, that won't be happening. Boo hiss.

I'm coming to SD to hang out with you.
  • S'mores cookies

I've made the smores cookies many times.  They are basically a chocoalte chip cookie with graham cracker crumbs in the batter, and then you press marshmallows into the cookies when they are almost done baking.  I don't add the extra chocolate on the top because I feel like it overwhelms the other flavors.

Here's the recipe I'm using for Rootbeer Float cookies.

I've never made them before, but I am intrigued.  And I finally found rootbeer flavoring over the weekend, so I'm going to make up a batch to feed to the guinea pigs on the boat.

  • July 4th always sucks because Greg's bank is open, so he has to work. He gets done at 3pm but traffic would be horrific and he'd never make it to the beach in time for the darn fireworks.

I would like to be at the beach with my parents watching the fireworks from our boat (like we do most years), but I always end up feeling guilty.  He'll be home alone while I'm out on the water watching the pretty fireworks.

  • Friday - My baby comes home!!!!  I'm demanding that whoever picks them up from the airport brings her by to see me at work.  It's out of the way, but I really don't care since it will save me a four wait.

Saturday/Sunday - We don't have anything planned.  We'll probably just hang out around the house.

Monday - We have resigned ourselves to going to FIL's.  We really don't want to, but we haven't been there since before Amelia was born and we hear about it quite regularly.  The man moved 1-1/2 hours away from everybody for really no reason, and has b!tched ever since that no one comes out to see him.  I really don't know how it's going to work considering his place isn't remotely baby-proof (last time I was there he had posionous frogs in a aquarium!) and there's no place to put Amelia to bed which means we'll have to leave by her bedtime which is before dark.  I'm going to stop now, because I could fill up a very long post venting about DH's family.

  • leave saturday am for Philadelphia/Warrington - my aunt is having a cookout but it will be fabulous, because everything she does is awesome.

we'll get to hang out with all my family and I'll get real good outdoor use of my camera and my new filters/lenses I bought a few weeks ago.

  • I have not thought that far ahead. My maiden name is Spontaneous-Planning. Smile

Nate and I will be home Monday, but Rodgers is working all weekend, including Monday. We'll see if any of my family is up to anything. If not, we may just stay home and eat hot dogs by ourselves.
