Poll: Alcohol at parties you host
Re: Poll: Alcohol at parties you host
I'm in the "we always have it but our friends don't get wasted" category as well. It isn't something I think about really. It seems like part of being a good host. The only time that made me nervous was when I realized that there was 1 girl who was only 20 (when everyone else was around 27-32). She was drinking a beer and I started to wonder if I should let it go or what, take it away from her? If it's a party and other people bring over their kids who are late teens, I imagine I'll say no. But this girl was part of my peer group.
Anyway, long story short, I see no problem with serving alcohol at a young child's birthday, esp if there are a lot of adults present. But, on the other hand, I'm not going to give you the side eye if you don't serve it at your kid's party.

We don't drink that much, so if I have someone over for dinner, I don't always think to offer. But, it's certainly an option, unless it's my family, and then I don't offer or have it out. Not sure if you remember, but my mother called me four times prior to my baby shower about putting away a very small display of liquor we had on our counter that we'd run out of room for in the cabinets, inventing all kinds of reasons for hiding it including that everyone would gossip about my drinking hard liquor while pregnant. Because of course, clearly I am that kind of person and my family and friends would know what a lush I am.
Um.. we had a keg at B's first birthday party
We always have it in the house and try to have our guests favorite on hand (if we know it in advance).
TBH, idk if I'll have alcohol in the house when I'm on my own again, probably though. I'll really have to fight the habit of freaking out and hiding it when I have company, it's like it's engrained in me.
