NER: WooHoo! I'm going to New Orleans!!
Not until May, but I'm excited!! My step-aunt is getting married, so we're going and turning it into a mini-vacation. My MIL is going to keep Marisa. Any recs on things to do? I want to start planning. It'll make up for not finding shoes today. =(
Re: NER: WooHoo! I'm going to New Orleans!!
So fun!!!
I went a couple years ago. I highly recommend going on a bayou tour. I got picked up at my hotel and we drove out somewhere close to the Missippi border, about an hour away. The tour was awesome. We saw tons of alligators and the swamp was actually very beautiful.
And eat dinner at Restaurant August. Yum, yum, yum.
Eat & drink!
The bayou tours are great. The zoo, aquarium and insectorium are also fun even if you don't have Marisa. Be sure to take a streetcar ride. And a ferry ride over to the Mardi Gras museum.
If you like to do a little gambling there is Harrah's.
But just walking around the French Quarter provides a lot in entertainment as well as history. And you got to eat the beignets at Cafe du Monde!
As it gets closer I can give you more details. Grayline does several interesting tours. My uncle is a tour guide for him. You could probably get info online about the tours.
My favorite restaurant is Commander's Palace in the Garden District uptown. In the French Quarter I would go to either Mr. B's or Brennan's. Personally I find Antoine's and Arnaud's overrated. And for casual meals try a muffaletta at Central Grocery or a po-boy at Maspero's.
I'm sure I'll come up with more as I think about it!
