Another Cat Post

Our neighbors were foreclosed on two weeks ago.  They moved out in a hurry in the middle of the night.  A few days later while DH and I were working the yard we noticed their cat was still wandering around outside.  Today (a week later) was meowing at the door of their house last night and this morning.  DH got a can of tuna and a bowl of water for it.

DH is calling the humane society tomorrow to see if they will take the cat (if we can even catch it-so far no luck).  They are full a lot of the time though.  Any suggestions on what we should do if we can't find a rescue to take the cat?  We aren't opposed to getting food for it and leaving it outside, but we can't bring it in once winter comes, our dog has had it out for that cat since we got her!

We always knew our neighbors sucked, but they are awful that they left their cat behind.

I would definitely start by calling your local shelter or SPCA.  maybe they can track down the owners and charge them or something.

This happened to my in-laws just a few months ago with their delinquent neighbour.  They moved out and left their dog there for weeks!  The poor thing barked and asked to be let inside the empty house the entire time.  My ILs kept feeding it, but couldn't take it in either.  By chance, they ran into the (adult) daughter of the delinquent owners at Walmart and told her what her parents had done.  A day later, someone came by and took the dog.  Hopefully it is alright.

Keep putting food and water out for it in a familiar place (like its own property).  The SPCA or shelter will find a way to catch or trap it, or can give you some great advice on doing it yourself.

  • No suggestions, just that it makes me absolutely sick to my stomach to know that people are doing this. And it's becoming worse and worse with all the foreclosures.

    F'ing douchebags.

This just breaks my heart and makes me want to cry Crying  I used to work in foreclosures and it is so how many poor innocent animals were left behind.  I'd keep putting food and water out for it as long as you can, and maybe even a little cardboard box with an old towel in it so it has some type of shelter.  Definitely call your local animal shelter as long as it's a no-kill shelter.  Unless this cat is a kitten, they'll most likely 'put it to sleep' since shelters are so full these days.  Maybe try calling the ASPCA too.

  • I'm not sure what to add as far as finding it a home, but I think there are agencies that do free healthcare so you can make sure it is spayed/neutered and doesn't have any more for you to care for
