Sorry for the delayed response, I had a busy weekend and forgot to check back on your post! I'd be more than happy to try and help you out, I love doing stuff like this 
I did the template and header for my mom's blog a few years ago (http://www.thesaucygourmet.com, it's a bit dated) and made the banner and shop images/logos for my mom's friend's Etsy shop (http://www.etsy.com/shop/partyhoppers) if you want to see some examples of stuff I've done.
Do you know what dimensions your backgrounds and headers should be? Some blogs restrict the size of certain design elements. Also, do you have any color preferences or any particular things you want to see? Any input you have helps

here is what my friend came up with: lauralovesmusic.wordpress.com I like the idea of the background, but maybe some lettering/lyrics on the sides? And for the header... I'm not really sure. I'd like it to be edgy, but feminine, too. If that even makes sense. I like the idea of contrast between the masculine albums background and a girly kind of header/lettering.
I must say that b/c you don't have a lot of blogging content yet, that background is really harsh on the eyes.
And the title and some of the heading content is lost in that mess of album covers. Also, are you worried about infringement issues by using those images?
I know. It is a rough draft she is working on. I wish I felt creative enough to do it myself. But I am lame lately.

Like Nicole mentioned, the background may be a bit busy and could distract from what you're posting. If you like this type of concept for it, you could try ghosting it a bit so that it's not quite so bright.
I'll play around with some header ideas for you over the next day or two and let you know what I come up with if that's okay!

Absolutely. Yay! She was going to blue it, and fade it out a bit, just hasn't gotten to it yet.
Okay, here's the first proof of the header image. You said you wanted girlie so I used pink girlie text, but I can change it however you want. Also, since the headphones are drawn from scratch I should be able to adjust the colors however you'd like. Also, the background can be switched out for whatever, I just thought it fit with it (but it might be too busy, depending on what you decide to do with the blog background). If this isn't what you're thinking just let me know and I'll take another stab at it!

I'm not a pink kind of girl... but I could stand peach or coral. And maybe make the headphones all gray? Oh. Make the font gray and the headphones coral?
I also like the idea of the main title being in a girly font (maybe a script) and the in a broken typewriter type font. Or vice versa, whichever looks better.
to be honest, i'm super flexible on color. There are colors I like together more than others (coral and green, yellow and gray, red and brown). What other background options are you thinking? I like the brick, but maybe it's too rustic and not modern enough.
Just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten about you. It's been a crazy week at work and I haven't had any free time to work on your header. I'll let you know whenever I do have something for you though
