Where can I get tamales?

Anyone know of any authentic Mexican restaurants in the area that I can order tamales?  Most restaurants near me serve the typical Tex-Mex food.

Re: Where can I get tamales?

  • Taqueria la Michoacana in Norristown.  I haven't been there yet but I keep meaning to go because I hear it's awesome.  I'm pretty sure they have tamales.

  • Yes!  They have tamales! Thank you!  If you can't tell from my enthusiasm, I'm having a really bad pregnancy craving and would kill for a good tamale right now.

  • I will be interested to hear how you like them! We were thinking of going there one of these days.

Also, if all else fails, I think Trader Joes sells frozen ones.

I hear you, I craved Mexican and spicy food like crazy when I was pregnant.  I became a regular at Plaza Azteca in Plymouth Meeting lol.  The only downside was salivating at the bucket size margaritas going by my table every five minutes.

Let me know if you like Taqueria.  It's one of those places that I want to go to and forget about every time we're trying to figure out where to go eat.

  • I think Rey Azteca in Warminster has tamales too.  It's not something I've ever ordered or looked for so I can't be sure.
  • Shan, we didn't get to Norristown last night since we are trying to get ready for vacation tomorrow so I settled for Rey Azteca in Warminster. They did have tamales but they were only ok - the corn masa was very thick and gummy and the chicken inside was kind of dry.  I guess I'm just spoiled by the ones I've had in Arizona.  Anywho, I definitely plan to hit up the one you recommended because some of the yelp reviews recommended the tamales.
