Smart phrases

Ok I need some help putting together a letter please!! So I moved out of our old place two months ago (April 28th) and still have not received our deposit.  I keep calling and I keep getting the run around.  So I finally called the housing office and talked to someone and he told everyone has been having a hard time getting their money back from these people and I will probably need to take it to court to get my money back.  So I want to start with a certified letter first to try and get my money back.  Anyone have any good legal terms, phrases or words that will make me sound like I mean business?? TIA

Re: Smart phrases

  • I would find your local tenant laws regarding deposits and cite those, as well as whatever is outlined in your lease.

  •  I am googling everything right now!

  •  I ended up finding tons of things online so I sent it off today. Hopefully that will help us get our lease back.

I have never in my whole life gotten a deposite back, so I have come to regard them as a sunk cost I will never see again.

    For real? That is terrible.

I have always gotten my deposits back, we don't have pets, I keep a clean house and patch all wholes before I leave. They said they just haven't gotten around to mailing the check out yet.

  • We got 50 dollars of our 200 dollar deposit back once. I asked to see the list of charges and they "suddenly realized they miscalulated our cleaning costs" and got another 125 mailed back to us.

  • I am still waiting on our deposit from our last place.  And it has been almost two months.  Guess it is time for another call and then a letter.  Good thing Texas has some letters already made up for this purpose (thank you google).

I hate dealing with that kind of BS. If they really wanted to cut that check it would be done. Hopefully your letter gives them a kick in the pants. They probably act that way because a lot of people will allow it and eventually forget about the whole thing, especially if they're far enough out of town.
