Recommend your jewler

I inheritaed a ring from my great great grandma that has recently been appraised and now I need to find a good jewler who can enlarge it. (the ring was a size 3 - yeah it's a tiny band). I'm going to keep the design - diamond cocktail ring but just need to add platinum and enlarge the band. Who do you recommend (and trust) in the northern va area?

I don't trust the jewelery stores in the mall. It's been in my family for well over 100 years. I could wait until I go back to Wisconsin for a visit and take it the jewelery store that we've always used in the past but I don't know when that's going to be.

We've been happy with the work of Greenan and Sons- they were happy to work with my custom piece when I had a problem, which I found some jewelers unwilling to touch.

Quest Jewelers in Fairfax. They do a ton of work for the uber-picky, very knowledgeable folks on the Pricescope forums. They did my custom wedding band and studs. Very happy with them.

Boone and Sons and ask for Chuck. My husband had my e-ring made through them, at that point he was at the DC store but has since moved to the NoVA store and we've moved with him! PM me if you want to go there and use our names as people who recommended you. He doesn't work on Mondays.

Adeler Jewelers in Great Falls Village - George Adeler runs the store with his family (it is behind the Old Brogue if you have ever been there). DH and I both got our weddings bands custom made there, and we couldn't have been any happier with the service. George Adeler has been in the jewelry business for years and you can really tell he has a passion for it. It's a bit expensive but the experience is so worth it.

Five Star Jewelers in Burke. Helen is the person you'll likely deal with in the store and her husband Toby does the work. My family has been using them for over a decade, and then my DH got my e-ring and wedding band from them even though he had to drive out from MoCo. Very honest, trustworthy people, and reasonable prices.

My husband and I used Charleston Alexander in Bethesda, MD. I think they also have a location in Falls Church. We were very happy with the service and the quality of the rings we bought there. We got the engagement and wedding bands here. We worked with Christi and she was great. Very knowledgeable about diamonds and different settings, etc. We did not get a custom ring but, our friends got a customized ring done there last month. They brought in a picture and CA was able to create the ring with all their requested changes. Our friends were happy with the results and the ring came out beautifully in my opinion.
