Our group is about 10 people and we always go out for lunch on each other's birthdays. Last week A, B and I were discussing that A's birthday is next week. B suggested that instead of going to our normal spot across the street we should go to Taste of Chicago (a huge foodfest in Grant Park). I was skeptical that it would work for an hour lunch break but also relieved b/c I hate going to our usual spot (all it has in huge burgers which I don't care for).
A liked the idea and B asked me to send out the invite. Send it out; about half of the group said they would go. This morning C comes to my desk and says; you know A, B and I talked about it and we don't really think we should go anymore, we should go to the usual spot. Then D comes over and says "thanks so much for changing the restaurant Hannah, now I can go" (D is vegan and was nervous about Taste; he gets a veggie burger at usual place).
It's not a big deal but I feel like everyone behind my back didn't want to go to Taste and didn't want to say anything to me, but i'm not the one who decided on it; I was just the messenger. I know it's not a big deal; but it's just frustrating that I was trying to be nice and organize it since no one else offered to send out the invite.
Thanks for reading.
Re: Vent- co-workers
Blah, getting a group of people together is always such a hassle. Where does the Birthday person want to go?
Honestly...I agree with Ashlee, I'd still hit up the Taste. It sounds more fun, and it would be a nice change.
Bday boy originally said Taste but was pursuaded to choose regular spot.
Another vent about eating with them is that everyone gets something other than water to drink (I don't; I just get water, which is $2.50 and then 2 of the guys get alcoholic drinks. This time they each had 2 @ $7.50 each...so it's not a huge deal, but instead of paying $0 for drinks; since we split the bill, that was an extra $5 per person.
