It is actually ridiculous how apprehensive I am feeling right now. My hairstylist is getting married and can't see me for highlights and a cut for another 2+ weeks. And I'm at the point where my hair needs attention NOW. Also, I've been dragging my heels on getting to the salon because it costs me $300 every time I go. So I just booked an appointment through a deal on BuyWithMe for this Thursday with a stylist I've never been to before. It will be about half the price which is awesome, and the stylist is allegedly a "master" but I still have tons of butterflies. I HATE seeing new people.
I'd probably wait and suck it up to pay the extra $$, but my parents are coming this weekend and I know I will get some flack from my mom about my bad roots and split ends if I don't go before they get here.
So ok, I know this whole confession is rather lame but is anyone else with me on severe hair anxiety with new salons/stylists?

Re: I am so nervous.
yea I had used the same hair stylist since I was 6 up until just before my wedding when she got a divorce and decided not to do hair anymore. since then I have been trying to find a stylist with a good vibe for me.
so far I went to bay city and paid $30 a pop for a hair cut and then deciding that was alittle steep I am trying to find a new stylist. the one I went to for my pixie cut is out as she did not do a good job and now I have to a new stylist to fix it for me.
so I guess you can say I understand your hair anxiety
I haven't found a stylist I absolutely love since I moved to D.C. from MI, and I've been here nearly 5.5 years. I've tried a bunch around the area and there was one person who did a great job, but was really rude, so I haven't gone back. I'd never gotten a cut I hated until April, though--the stylist didn't listen to me and it's way too short. Ugh. It's finally grown out somewhat.
I used to go back to my stylist every time I visited MI, but she's now out of business. Still kind of floundering over here, and I need an appointment soon for a trim and highlights, too. So yes, I totally understand your anxiety.
That's how I was here in Boston until I found this girl I LOVE. Of course, she just so happens to work out of one of the most expensive salons in the city...ugh. Highlights are so tricky...it takes a lot of skill for really GOOD ones.
Where did you used to go in MI Chica? Was she in Ann Arbor? It's too bad she went out of business!
And Barbett, I'm sorry you don't like your new cut. I think it looks nice on you - and I applaud you for being so brave to try something so different!
I'm actually really lax about my hair. It's always grown really fast, and I've never had a super terrible experience with anything I've had done. I've even highlighted it at home with peroxide (i was a teen) and had DH cut it for me by leaning back in a chair and hoping he got it straight.
I did find a salon that I like, but I hate their location in our town, even now that they've moved to a new spot. Plus, what's with the straightening irons they always use now? Doesn't anyone know how to do a good blowout anymore? That always irks me, so I just go home with it wet and let it air dry.
Haha, I have to agree. Whenever a stylist busts out a straightening iron for me, I can't help but think - have you even been paying attention while you've been working on me? A straightening iron is the absolute LAST thing I need.

Yep, Ann Arbor. I found her at Heidi's in Briarwood; she then opened her own business, but it's been bought out by a new owner. She worked there up until 2008, but that's not the case anymore. I'm hoping I can find someone in downtown D.C. since I'll actually be working in the city now!
I ask them not to use it. I don't use one, so my hair isn't going to look like that when I do it. Just ask for a blowout. Challenge them!
