I have a possibly flame-worthy confession

No one in real life knows this---

I secretly love not working.  I was laid off in January from a job I hated and worked at for almost 7 years.  I'm collecting (a measly) unemployment.  DH's salary pays our bills and our lifestyles hasn't really changed except we moved closer to his work which happened to be cheaper since it's farther outside the city but otherwise our only change is we aren't putting as much in savings.

NO ONE IRL knows this.  My group of friends are all very career-minded girls and we've all been working since we were 14 etc.  When they ask how I'm doing I say "hanging in there" and "wish I could find something" and they nod their heads in pity.  But secretly--- I'm enjoying every minute of sitting on the couch and watching Price Is Right.  I've never been this relaxed in my whole life.  I haven't worn non-elastic waist band pants in MONTHS!

I am very actively looking for a job- so I know sooner or later I will be back to work and won't stop until I'm 65, but for now I'm loving every minute of being 13 again.

Please don't tell anyone :P

  • I was unemployed for a year before Zach and I got engaged. About 8 months in, I finally decided I didn't like it anymore, and not because I WANTED to go back to work, but because I was sick of cleaning my parents house on a weekly basis for gas/bill money.

I don't blame you one bit for enjoying it, especially since your bills are taken care of.  I was unemployed for 3 months this fall/winter and we really struggled financially and actually had to get help from our families, but if the bills weren't an issue, I would have loved it lol.  Sleeping in every day was wonderful and sitting around in my pajamas was the best.

  • no flames from me either, I am off all summer and love it...our district was facing some real financial trouble and cutting everything but core subjects (luckily we've most things back in some form...)and I kept telling DH history was next because we are the only non tested core subject.  We finally reached a point where we decided if a furlough came I would be able to be a stay at home mom for a year and now I'm embracing that idea

  • No flames from me either! I was unemployed for about 8 weeks and it was AWESOME! I actually saved money being unemployed, my check covered my bill and since I lived in the sticks I saved on gas since I never went anywhere.

We are hoping that when I have a baby I won't have to work, I am not sure that is going to work out, but we will see. I have my fingers crossed!

  • Flame free here!  I work from home, and it was the best decision I ever made!
  • No flames from me either. I've been out of work for a while now and at first I felt like you, but now I want a job and out of the house.

  • My DH was unemployed for 2 years and finally found work this past April. He enjoyed not being in the rat race. But he stayed very busy tiling the floor, adding vents, painting the house, not to mention doing all the laundry, grocery shopping and cooking. So when I was off on the weekends, we had time to enjoy. I get a lot of leave so we took frequent long weekends and trips. I did not have much downtime this way which made wedding planning difficult. Now that he is working, some nights he is tired and I can work on my projects.
