When to follow up and with whom?

I feel like every question I ask on this board is about follow-up, but every situation is different and it's so hard!

First interview with the hiring manager was June 6th. Second interview was last Tuesday, June 21st and I met with 9 different people ranging from the team that would support me to the Managing Director. The interview went extremely well. On Tuesday, the hiring manager asked if he had my references (he did).

Then on Wednesday the HR person sent me a personality test, which I took that day and sent back. They have not checked my references yet.

All of the scheduling communication has come through the HR Manager, not the hiring manager. So my question is, when would it be appropriate to follow up? And should I follow up with the HR Manager or the Hiring Manager?

They're hiring 3 of the same position and they reposted the job yesterday, so while it's not entirely discouraging, I'm definitely discouraged. Thoughts?

Re: When to follow up and with whom?

  • I'd wait at least a week from the last contact, maybe 2. Try to put yourself in their shoes. The HR person has to get feedback from NINE different people, analyze the results of the personality test, check references, and put together an offer.

  • I would follow up with the HR Manager, since she has been the primary point of contact, but I would wait until at least the end of this week.
