Re: My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

  • I've seen it!  It's pretty interesting, especially the way some of the locals don't like the gypsy's (why, I don't get it) and the venues won't book the wedding if they know it's a gypsy wedding, supposedly because they get too rowdy, but I never saw anything particularly rowdy on the show.

I don't know much about their traditions other than what I've seen on the show.

I'm totally fascinated by the whole show! My big question is why the women are even into being gypsies, kwim? They have to drop out of school at, like, 14; are married off at 16; and spend the rest of their lives cooking and cleaning their little trailer and waiting on their husbands hand and foot. There's so much life after 14!

And holy hell, the weddings are trash-tastic.

I don't know anything about gypsy wedding traditions, but I'm guessing that's where the dollar dance originated ;) hahaha!

From what I am told, gypsies have a life expectancy of 36ish, so that is part of it. Also, they are born in to it so they don't know any other way. But rarely do any of them look happy. They look and sometimes admit that they are miserable. But they don't have an education to do anything else. Most can only read to understand. Even the one gypsy that went through a divorce stayed in the lifestyle, she just did it without a husband. Her kids did everything for her. It was a big concern because she didn't know how she was going to take care of herself once her daughter got married.

Thanks to our wonderful RE our family is complete!
