Once you scan copies of your passports, etc, are you emailing them to yourself? We are trying to figure out what to do. I think we will make physical copies and then scan them as well.

 Thanks :)

Re: ktwed*

  • We had a copy with us in our suitcase and a copy with DH's parents
  • I would have completely forgotten to leave a copy with our parents, thanks!

Also re: the wrinkle release, did you use it because there weren't irons, or so you didn't have to iron. DH is being cheap and doesn't want to buy it...LOL.

None of the hotels we were in had irons.  Bed Bath & Beyond has small bottles for $2-3

This, exactly! We plan to leave a copy with my parents, put a copy in our suitcases, and *maybe* also e-mail them to ourselves. DH is worried about the security of both having them in our suitcases, and also e-mailing  them, but I'm trying to explain that it's necessary.

Can you password protect the emailed version so that it is more secure?

That's a good thought...I'm not sure if that's an option on my e-mail program. I know i can encrypt it with my work e-mail, but I can't access that without my work laptop (which I won't have), and I"m not sure what will happen if I send it to my regular e-mail address. In general, I'm not really sure what people will do with our passport information, since it's a photo id, I think it would be difficult to try to do anything with it. Maybe I"m naive. However, with the credit/debit cards which we also want copies of, I can see why he's concerned.

You can password protect any Adobe, Word or Excel file. Let me know if you want to me to tell you how to do it.

  • DH had the same concerns about the email. I will suggest the password protecting to him too.

  • Another thing, if you happen to see this, what kind of bag are you planning to carry around during the day? My aunt gave me one that she has used and it's really "practical" lots of zippered compartments, but it's not quite my style...I also think it looks very touristy, but I know that it will keep all of my things safe. So I am undecided.

Funny story about that. I bought a sling type backpack to carry around during the day because it seemed more secure with the one strap that goes around your body, and the price was right. I showed it to DH, and just mentioned how I was a little bit worried about pickpockets, etc... since I've done a lot of research on the trip. He kind of laughed it off, but then mentioned it to someone at work, and then a few more, and a bunch of them had experiences with gypsies trying to pickpocket them while in Rome. So, long story (sort of) short, my husband is now on a tirade against gypsies, and we bought a PacSafe bag which is worn across your body and has a bunch of features so that it can't be easily opened. It's not the most fashionable, but it'll work.
