I'm going up to talk to AT&T later this afternoon. I never get the insurance. In 10 years of having a phone this is the 1st time I would have needed it.
Debating on just dealing with it or forking over the $$ to get a new one. It's an iPhone so it ain't going to be pretty.
It's not just a tiny crack either. It's a good chunk of the bottom part of the screen.
I'm still a year out from an upgrade so it's not even like I can deal with it for a little while.
EDIT: ugghhhhhhh looking on line it looks like a new one will be $300. #@$(%#($%&#($^ Dh offered his old one when he gets upgraded but I use mine to take videos of C and his doesn't have that =(
p.s. What's the deal with a refurbished phone? Is it worth it to get?

What's the difference? It's just a used phone that they overhauled?
please!!
yeah they are just revamped phones. Same with any refurbished products. They wont sell them if they have known issues. I know the initial warranty is not as long as it would be with a new one though.

Some of those sketchy storefront cell phone stores will fix a cracked screen. I went to one and they said they'd fix mine for $80 but it would take 2 days. I felt funny about leaving my phone with them and ended up buying a new iPhone since mine was the older model.
I second the Otter box recommendation.
Ditto to the otterbox! Those things are not that pretty to look at, but they do save a phone more often than not. I'm curious to hear how much it is to replace a screen and where you get it done at... (didn't know you could do that... this will be good info to have for future reference since hubs doesnt like the otter).
PS...Also, I may be wrong but I thought the "insurance" didn't cover Iphones anyway so it probably wouldnt help to have insurance <-- that's what I have always been told at ATT?? but IDK. Good luck!
DH was offered a refurbished one for cheaper when he cracked his screen and it was not time for an upgrade, yet. It was a lot cheaper, and worked just fine.
I don't think you can get insurance for the iphone? But maybe that's different now (I know you couldn't when they first came out). He does have an expensive cover on it now for protection!
Just an FYI, for what it's worth, anytime I have ever gotten a replacement phone with insurance, it was actually a refurbished phone and not a new one. I don't know if that is how they do it with iPhones but the rest of the phones that is what they do.
Sorry you cracked your screen, I hope it will continue to work or you can get a screen that won't break the bank to replace!
Here are a couple of places that popped up when I googled iPhone replacement screen:

I'd love it.
I shattered my iPhone screen when I dropped it on carpet!
Don't go to AT&T, they will screw you for better words.
Take it to the Apple store and you get a 1 time free replacement.
i've used drcellphone in the greenway plaza area for my ipod touch - you can call them for pricing.
I called apple and I have to take it in before they'll give me a price. It was $300 to get new phone!!
This is your best bet. I had the same thing happen with my (at the time) 3 month old iPhone4 and the nice people at the Apple store totally replaced the phone for free....with a brand new phone! I was dumbfounded! (I did NOT have any insurance, BTW). It doesn't hurt to try....you might be pleasantly surprised!
I completely shattered my screen on Saturday, freaked out and made a appt at the Genius bar and had a brand new screen by the end of the day for free. As long as you haven't had to replace your phone or screen before Apple will give you one freebie. I went to the Baybrook Store if that helps any.
You absolutely HAVE to make a genius bar apptmt.
My experience also was at Baybrook so that's your best bet.
Good luck!
Also, back up your phone before you go.
